I was ready to return this reel. Thought I had a faulty one like in some reviews. Even ordered a JM reel to replace it. Birds nest on every cast. Along with the replacement, I ordered some #30 braid. I loaded the new reel and filled this one with some of what was left. Filling the spool made all the difference, it casts smoother and further than my Curado and with double shielded bearings it should hold up better.
On my first outing, hauled in 2 reds and a trout with ease, lose drag allowed a monster red to escape (my fault). The reel sang as he striped line. I love this reel.

I bought this reel as part of a combo with a 7'6" casting rod (Offshore Extreme Rod) for jetty fishing. Ended up using it more as a frogging rod for freshwater. The reel is top quality and has served me very well, catching lots of tub bass on topwater frogs in heavy scum, muck and vegetation - recently one of the reel handle knobs broke off when I was setting the hook on a fish, which I landed. Looking for a replacement knob.

Rated 3 out of 5 by geo19 Good but does not last
I purchased several of these reels. Used them in salt and fresh water. Great casting and real good drag. Caught reds and stripers with no issues. However, seems there is always a but, I have not been able to keep them operational for a full season. Sent them to bass pro, paid for cleaning and tune up when I was unable to get them back going. Seemed good at first, but one conked out after first fishing trip, totally useless now and the second one seems loose and not casting well. I really thought I had found a great reel. Guess they are if you can afford to replace them each year.

I wish I could use my new OceanMaster OM20HA reel. It's a great reel except, I can't take it apart the side plate will not rotate to come off. I returned the reel to BPS. But the reel they had in stock plus the display model had the same problem. I think there's a defect from the manufacture. I hope they can get the problem solved. I really like this reel.
