Rated 3.7 out of 5 by 22 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by good rod A good combo for the price. Caught Summer Flounder, Black sea bass and baby Blacktip reef shark. July 24, 2012
Rated 2 out of 5 by Disappointed Used this combo only once while kayaking. Worked great. When I was done I thoroughly washed it. Next time I go out the line catcher "thingy" won't close after casting. Rod is decent though. May 9, 2012
Rated 2 out of 5 by poor material Damaged the grip just taking the wrapping off the grip material is some kind of foam August 22, 2011
Rated 2 out of 5 by good price, poor quality I bought this combo cause i wanted a balanced rod and reel combo that wasnt too expensive. After going on basspro online and reading the reviews i decided to buy it . Truth be told, its sadly not worth the money. The rod itself looks very good. But its not durable at all. The tip broke of on its own. And the reel, eventhough lightweight for its size, is garbage. After moderate use with constant maintenance the reels bearings got damaged and became worthless. Instead of buying this i now recomend an ugly stick, not the combo cause the reel that shakespeare gives is garbage, with a penn reel August 14, 2011

Is it also good for tuna/small sharks?

Answers

A:
Hi, for Squid Fishing: almost any style of rod and reel will work. Think "light and long" because it's best to have something that is sensitive and telegraphs slight changes. Successful squidders use anything from six to 20-pound line but the best chances of success come with the lighter line. For shark and tuna combo you might choose another option. However, this would be good for squid fishing. Thanks

Depends what type of fishing he would do with it. If he needs to cast, this set=up would likely be difficult for a seven year old
