Rated 4 out of 5 by Nice reel - Nice price I bought this reel to replace a Penn Sargus that I wore out after a year and a half. I wanted a quality reel with sealed drag that was more reasonably priced. The BPS staff at Ft Myers were helpful and let me take spools off of several competing reels to inspect the drag system prior to purchase. They were also were able to advise on the construction of the bail spring mechanism which I was concerned with after having two Penn SSG's fail just after one year. The reel has performed nicely so far. Very nice drag system for fighting big inshore saltwater fish. I repeat, I am impressed with the drag system. Nice cast as well. I'm considering buying another but I still don't know how long the reel will last even when taking care of it. If this reel will outlast the Sargus I will continue to buy as long as it is sold. I'm also considering getting a small Penn Slammer to last longer but it is almost twice the money. Ouch. I may try to convince myself that a Penn Slammer with braid could serve as a backup Tarpon rig. The Inshore Extreme Reel is a nice piece. Time will tell its durability. I will give it 5 stars if it lasts under my conditions hooking snook, reds, grouper, trout, etc. I rinse with frshwater after every use, just like with the Penn Sargus. September 16, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by Extemely Impressive! The Inshore Extreme Reel is impressively smooth, strong, has fantastic retrieve stength and holds up well under pressure...When I tried this reel at my local BPS I could not believe how smooth it is..Going on just that, I was sold...At 80 bucks it's a great deal! I can't wait to try it on Stripers and blues! These Inshore reels are very similar to the Johnny Morris reels that sell for about the same price...Both are great products! Thanks BPS! April 5, 2010

Use mine on rods from 6' boat to 12' Penn Torque for bank casting. The reel is small and holds plenty of braid with 22 lbs of drag and feel great on any rod I've put it on.

Yes, it is very easy, just unscrew the knob on the opposite side of the reel handle and just flip the positions of the knob and the reel handle.

I've been using a pretty basic offshore angler rod/reel combo I bought a few years back to catch fish along the surf in Mexico on trips there. Many times I would like to cast another 20 yards or so to get out to a school just beyond the surf line. Looking to upgrade to another combo or just a reel that will help me get more distance, throwing 1 to 2 oz. spoons and lures in the surf along the beach. Thanks!

If you spool it up with lighter pound test braid you can cast anything extremely far, the lighter pound test the farther you can cast.
