Had this combo in the 7ft version. I used it to fish the south FL beaches and have caught snook and jacks off this setup. After about 4 months, the reel started to give me probelms. I kept having to take it apart and tighten a screw to get it to run smooth again. Well, it finally locked up and I returned it. I must say that I really love the rod and thought about just changing the reel. Instead, I found a combo that has a Penn Battle 4000 reel with an upgraded but similar offshore angler rod. Cant wait to get some use out of it. I would have given this combo five stars if the reel didn't fail. I do believe that its worth buying and I might have just had some bad luck.

Typically i stay away from combos but i picked this up when i started to get into saltwater fishing. It collected dust for the past five years until i recently got into cat fishing. I have the med action rod and the reel's max recommended test is 14. I slapped on 20 lb test and works like its new. Caught numerous flat heads and the rod/reel works like new despite collecting dust for the past five years

I was fishing in Naples Florida off the peir for snook, pompino, mackeral, snapper, and whatever else hit and i ended up hookin sumthin heavy on der bottom.it ended up bein one of these combos. it looked like it had been don there a little while cause there was alot of salt residue on it. so i took it over to the hose and took of the drag knob and cleaned it out best i could put it back together. that whole day we were breakin off huge snook on the pilings cause we need heavyier test and i noticed the combo i had had real heavy pound test on it already so i rigged it up with a pilcherd and ended up catchin 5 or 6 real nice snook and the drag handle great all the same day i dragged it off the bottom. evry good fisherman knows tat once a reels fully submerged in saltwater, its never the same and usually runs like a two legged dog in about a week. well now, a year later, the reel runs like warm butter. it was the best 84 bucks i ever dragged off the bottom.

I have two of the 6'6 coms and am using 50 lb spider wire. I have landed a 36.75 lb striper with one of them and a ton of other fish. Take the time to lube your reels and they will last. I will buy more when they come in stock again.
