This reel is the bomb I bought it with the combo because I needed a large fishing combo for stingrays. If anyone has ever battled stingrays between 60 and 120 pounds they know how ferocious they are on the line. This reel held up great. I loved it. I could cast far with it. Drag was tight. Nice torque. Can handle big fish. Way worth the price. Plus with the bait clicker it made still baitfishing for rays a cake walk

This reel has so many features for the price. It actually has a cast control knob - of course, I won't be doing too much casting with this. I took it fishing for California scorpion fish last week, and the reel performed wonderfully. The retrieve was smooth and effortless. I was using a 12 oz. torpedo in 250 to 300 ft. of ocean, and no problems! Of course, the price is right on this one.

Ok I bought this reel looking for a cheaper yet still relatively powerful reel, and I will admit it didn't disappoint me. This is a strong reel which I've rigged up with 500yds of 40lb braid, and somewhere around 150 or so yards of 20lb mono and its still not full. And at a rather nice 22lbs of drag, its a pretty good workhorse of a levelwind reel. I have mine rigged to a 10ft BPS Catmaxx 20-40 class rod with a 150lb barrel swivel and about 5 feet of 50lb mono along with I believe a 6/0 catmaxx baitholder hook for surf/catfishing from the bank. And switch it to a 7'6 Shoremaster Custom 30-80 class rod for saltwater pier fishing with the same setup. With a 3 ounce egg sinker and a chunk of cutbait it makes for a really decent casting reel.
Now to the downsides. I've been using baitcaster/conventional levelwind reels for most of the time I have been fishing, so about 21 years now. This reel is definitely good for the money, but if you are not used or do not really know how to use a casting/conventional reel then you will have issues with this if you want to do anything but straight bottom fishing or trolling. But once you get the tension settings correct, it is a great all around reel. The only thing I wish was different about this reel is that I wish they could rework the internals to have the same drag strength as the okuma solterra SLR-30L. But other then that I can't say there is anything wrong with it.
