  • Durable all-aluminum frame
  • American-Made Ocean Silk lubricant
  • Forged, double-anodized spool
  • 3000-6000 models graphite rotor
  • 7000 and 8000 aluminum rotor
  • 8 total bearings
  • Rubber braid band
  • Stainless steel main shaft
Our new Frigate saltwater spinning reel is a masterpiece of design, performance, and rock-solid durability. This versatile warrior is built on an all-aluminum frame, with a lightweight carbon fiber-reinforced composite rotor on the 3000–6000 models, and a rugged A360 aluminum rotor on 7000–8000 models. A specially-formulated, American-Made Ocean Silk lubricant has been applied to the interior to handle the rigors of saltwater fishing. The spool is forged and double-anodized, with a braid grip arbor to create traction and prevent slippage when tying directly to the spool with braided line. Carbon fiber and Teflon® drag stack slows battling game fish with a firm yet smooth pressure. Inside, you'll find an 8 bearing system that includes Powerlock instant anti reverse that imparts ultra-smooth and stable performance, and the stainless steel main shaft provides a rigid and durable core. We've designed the Frigate to be the toughest, smoothest saltwater reel you can find. When you use it, we think you'll agree.

Rated 5 out of 5 by 1 reviewer.
Rated 5 out of 5 by One of the best I've bought. I purchased the FG5000 model to pair with my 6'6" Offshore Angler Brawler Trophy Spinning Rod, that I purchased the same day. The FR5000 comes with a 4.9:1 gear ratio and a line retrieval of 34". Like a fine tuned car, the gear ratio and line retrieval are a perfect balance of torque and speed. I also like the fact the it has a built in rubber strip on the spool for attaching your line before spooling, which is much better than using black tape. Spooled it up with some 30lb Power Pro Super 8 Slick braid line and went fishing. Reeled in a 3.5 to 4lb Jack and a 5lb catfish without a problem. The Frigate FG5000 reeled in fast and smooth. For the price point it is well worth it. I thought I was using a much more expensive reel. I am thinking of buying another to replace my Penn Fierce. March 10, 2014

Yes it is, but you might do better with the FR7000. The weight difference will give you a better balanced set up.
