From the heart of Walleye Country comes a legend in the heart of walleye anglers everywhere. Northland Fishing Tackle, Bemidji, Minnesota, has been making innovative walleye jigs and rigging components for nearly a quarter of a century. From the beginning, founder John Peterson and a host of other PWT pros have worked together to develop the most innovative line of quality walleye tackle in the world. Today, it's no stretch to say that more walleyes have been taken on Northland Fishing Tackle jigs and rigs than on any other line of walleye tackle.

The original soft-bodied floater jig. Made from foam and floats live bait over moss, weeds, and rocks. Deadly on walleye, perch, and bass. 6 pk. Made in USA.

Rated 5 out of 5 by 8 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Walleye and Smallmouth Fishing I originally purchased the Northland Gum-Drop Floater Jig for a trip to northwest Ontario in 2008. I used the floating jig in conjunction with a bottom-bouncing weight system and they outperformed the standard Lindy rig setups while at the lake. I've also used these for live bait presentations and Berkley Gulp Alive presentations (without weight) on the Potomac River outside of DC, they performed well on the river's smallmouth. I highly recommend the product. May 20, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great for all fish I have used these floating jig heads for many different kinds of fish. They work well for walleye fishing in the river which a fake or real worm hooked on. Also, trout, and salmon in rivers with spawn sacks. They are pretty durable, and I am glad that I used them. They can be used for blue gill to. If you are having trouble getting fish to bite on the surface, I usually try to put on a small split shot that makes it sink just a bit to get it closer to the fish. Most success using live bait, but either way have had good outcomes. March 24, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by great for walleyes This is a great jig for floating nightcrawlers and leeches for walleyes. March 18, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best Jig Head '''''''''''''' Used these for trout and had very good success, rig them with wax worm and a split shot 12" above and trout and even bass will be hitting and pay attention to your line. November 1, 2009

Where I catch walleye, you have to be able to cast a certain distance. I understand that the live bait will serve as extra weight, but I needed to know if I can buy this knowing the weight before I buy it.

This is just a floating jig, does not have weight to cast, as you said, the live bait
would ad to your cast distance, if you wanted more weight, you could ad small sinkers,

Use with a floating worm?

Details:
I'm a very inexperienced angler to begin with.

In late May I'm going with some buddies to a cottage on Sturgeon Lake, near Lindsay, Ontario.

We'll be doing some Walleye fishing. I was thinking I could use these floating jigs, with a floating worm, and have a sliding weight between two stoppers to keep this bait 16" - 24" from the bottom of the lake.

Is that something that might work?

Yes this sounds like you should be pretty successful using this technique. Don't be afraid to use live night crawlers. Also, don't be afraid to change you tactics. Sometimes walleye won't hit the floating jig, but will hit a sinking jig or a crankbait. Use trial and error to see what is working.
