I also viewed another sharpening tool that was a few dollars more, and was just wondering what kind of material this item was made of.. and how long will it last before it wears out.

I don't know what materials the stones are made of but this sharpener does a wonderful job sharpening our knives. The price is very reasonable also; and it lasts a long time even when we use it a lot.

I have one and the sticks inside appear to be ceramic. It works good if the knife is not too dull. Use it to touch up the blade periodically and it works great.
