Rated 5 out of 5 by Great scope for the price Have owned Nikon cameras for years and was more then satisfied with their lenses. So I thought, lets give Nikon's riflescope optics a try. Purchased Prostaff 3-9x40 Matte BDC at Cabela's on sale. Cabela's bore sighted it to 100 yards on my Savage 93R17 - .17 HMR rimfire rifle. Took it to the range to finalize the sighting in process. I was amazed that it only took five shots to "zero in" at 100 yards. The windage & elevation controls are accurate and simple to use. The light gathering ability of this scope in poor lighting conditions is great. I was pleasantly surprised. Have had other manufactures scopes over the years, but none of them have the light gathering optics that this one has. A great all around scope for the price. Highly Recommended. May 20, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by quality on a budget Great scope for the money . 2nd BDC scope I have purchased .Looked at a half dozen scopes kept coming back to the prostaff, the quick focus eye piece was the deal maker May 11, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Upgrade from 3x9x40 to 4x12x40 Prostaff Nikoplex/AR 15 platform I'm in my mid 40's, I needed a bit more magnification on my rifle to be able to see bullet holes in paper at 100 yards. My original 3 x9 Prostaff held zero point and is an excellent optic in my opinion, especially for the money. I've had no problems whatsoever. My new 4 x 12 x 40 Prostaff arrived yesterday and will be mounted on my rifle this evening. Holding it by hand and looking around, the glass is clear and bright and it was heavily overcast and sprinkling rain outside. Looks great too and I love the adjustment knobs in helping dope the scope for long range. And, a lifetime warranty. Thank you. May 1, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Product This scope has everything I need. It is clear, good in low light, rugged and priced right. April 15, 2014

A:
No, unless there is some "special" where they advertise gettings the rings free with the purchase of the scope.

Over the last year I have seen Nikon M223, M308, P223 and P300 scopes advertised as "specials" where you got a Nikon M223 or P223 mount with the scope at no extra cost.

A:
The quality of the glass is different, but I have never been disappointed with Nikon Prostaff. They have served me well.

I have found Monarchs to be better at gathering light in low light conditions because of the quality and clarity of the glass.

A:
Prostaff Riflescopes are Nikon's Entry Line, inexpensive but great optical quality Riflescopes. The Monarch Line are Nikon's Flagship. They feature all the best optical coatings Nikon has developed, thus they offer the best optical image available in a low priced, high quality Riflescope. Beyond that, the Monarch Line features a One-piece tube construction.

All Nikon scopes that I have seen have 1 inch tubes so 1 inch rings are the correct size. There is no such thing as smallest or largest. The rings MUST match the tube size. Make sense?

The tube diameter on the 3-9x50 is 1", you would need the standard 1" high rings.

the BDC is accurate it is made so that with a regular round you sight it in at 100 and with a magnum you sight it in at 200 and the BDC will go in 100 yard intervals i have a 7mm mag and a 30-06 and its accurate for both

A:
The BDC is not very precise in terms of competitive target shooting with a wide array of calibers and trajectories on any scope without drop-in cams. But it is close enough to take game with it. My suggestion for accuracy is go to the range with your favorite ammo and work a ballistics chart to attach to the buttstock.

My friend shoots one his 204 and it is very good. Their on line chart for your load and brand of factory ammo has been real close for his 204 and my 223. The more I use the BDC the more I like it.

Check you ballistic charts, its dead on with standard 30 caliber centerfires( 30-06, .308) however its in the (killzone) pie plate out to 500 yds for all calibers. You just have to shoot it to familerize with your gun.
