Rated 4.9 out of 5 by 10 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by If you like accuracy, buy one. I bought one of these scopes in March, mounted it on a Ruger M77/22. Had to buy extra high rings. Objective lens was fine but could not operate bolt. Even with extra high rings rifle is still a tack driver out to 75 yards. Clarity and quality are superb. Can not beat this scope for the price. Nikons Spot On app. is also very helpful. Would buy again. April 15, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Riflescope. Low Price. Perfect for Rimfire. I purchased this for my Savage Mark II BTVS .22LR. Mounted with Nikon P-Series mounts. Adjusted the scope fore-aft for my eye position and the eye relief allows a clear view with every draw. I appreciate the quality build, lifetime warranty, multi-coated lenses, BDC 150 reticle, and BDC phone app. While I did heed other reviews on the plastic caps, I don't have a problem with them as I feel the plastic will make a better seal for waterproofing than aluminum. I have had other scopes with aluminum caps tend to leave aluminum filings with repeated on/off turning and was not happy. In addressing the magnification ring issue, I do feel the pound of torque needed to turn could be better served with a few ounces of force to turn. We are shooting rimfires here, not .50 cal. With that noted, it is a wonderful scope for the price. March 13, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good scope for the price Used on .22 Savage for shooting with my kids and teaching the them about guns and gun safety. Nicely built clear view very easy to use. Great Value and Bass Pro mounted for free March 12, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Very bright and clear. Bought this Prostaff Rimfire 3-9x40 BDC to mount on my Savage MKII .22lr. That had to be one of the best decisions I have made in a scope purchase. It is very clear, very very easy to zero in, and a lifetime warranty. That makes it a winner all the way around. The only thing that could make it better would be for Nikon to clean and cook all those squirrels I have shots since I mounted the scope. October 27, 2013

A:
Most Nikon Riflescopes can be made compatible with almost any ammunition and Rifle combination using Nikon's Spot-On program. Depending on your planned distances and what you want to sight in for, this would be an ideal scope, as the Parallax setting is set for 50 yards, so this would be ideal for most Rimfire Rifles.

You will need the mount base, such as the Weaver sku 552078 and the rings, which with the 40mm you would want to go with the medium high rings.
