Rated 5 out of 5 by Perfect scope for AR15-22 I purchased this scope, along with a Burris P.E.P.R. mount, to install on a Smith and Wesson M&P15-22. The install was easy. I took it to the range to sight in, and was on bullseye at 50yds in just a couple of shots. The turrets made zeroing in easy. I handed the gun to my daughter, and she was able to nail bullseye at 50yds quite easily. The BDC reticle, combined with the Nikon Spot-On app, makes shooting out to 100yds easy enough. This is my third Nikon scope with the BDC, and I can't recommend them enough. October 1, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Solid Scope for the $$$ I purchased this scope for my S&W M&P AR 15-22. It is clear out to the edges and was easy to sight in. This is the perfect scope for target shooting and general plinking. In fact, the combination of the Nikon P-22 and the S&W rifle is so good, I will take this to the woods this fall for a bag full of zombie squirrels! Nikon makes quality optics and this is another Nikon scope that exceeds expectations. July 17, 2013

Which reticle is best?

Details:
I don't know very much about guns but I was wanting to get this for my husband for his birthday. I was wondering whether the BDC 150 reticle or the Nikoplex reticle is best?

I personally like the Nikoplex. The BDC is good for some, but works best with specific ammunition and some folks shoot different ammunition. You could always get a gift card and let him choose? Great gift BTW..

The bdc is handy I guess, but a lot to look at. The nikoplex is what I own and I love it. Crystal clear.

A:
The BDC reticle allows hunters to hold “dead-on” at ranges exceeding those previously thought possible. The BDC’s unique see-through ballistic circles offer an incredible advantage for long range shooting—yet allow a normal sight picture for shorter-range shots where the crosshair itself is the aiming point.
BDC 150: was developed specifically to match its “ballistic circles” to the trajectory of the .22 LR rimfire cartridge.

Nikoplex: Long considered the standard hunting reticle, the plex design's heavy outer posts direct the eye toward the finer crosshairs at the reticle center for fast target acquisition.

No, you will need to add 45 degree offset sights if you want to still use iron sights.
Or use a red dot type sight that will co-witness
