I have owned a few Garmin products and had to buy their map chips on occasion. The Humminbird unit that I wanted required a Navionic map card. I was not happy that Navionics was a lot more expensive for their map chip. I have to say that it is a great product with better detail than their competitor. I was happily surprised that the Card came with a USB card reader and a years worth of free map updates. Be warned, when updating the card, the Navionics web site is very slow and it may take hours for the full map to update.

I spent $200 on the 1XG, It gives you good info on nav aids, but all of the poi icons have no info. There is a major marina/restaurant near my marina that does not show up on the chart, we still need the smart phone for poi when close to shore, No phone numbers for marinas, no transient dockage on display-but it is available. I have found many problems within areas I know, so how does it help you in the unknown. I noticed that my marina on 1XG had no mention of transient dockage at all, I know they have it-$1 a foot. I guess the smart phone and a TOM TOM will give us all the info we need.
