This product worked well for about 6 months. Now it does not operate at all. I'm back to hand feeding. The feeder never sent food more than 10 feet out

This feeder would be adequate if you suspended it over the water exactly where you want to feed the fish. If you have about six inches of land that you need to clear, forget it. I'd say that approximately 75 - 80% of the feed never makes it more than 18 inches from the base of the feeder. As soon as I put it up and ran it once, I took it back down. If there was a store close by, I would be returning it right now.
Read the reviews, and heed the advice. I wish I would have.

This is the 2nd unit I have been given as a gift from a family member. The 1st unit vibrated enough to shear the bolts on the bracket and the feeder ended up in the bottom of the lake. What appears to have happened is the spinning tray that slings the feed vibrated loose and the vibration caused the unit to sheer the bolts. I requested relief from Moultrie, but they did not respond. I just installed this unit to add strapping so that if the bolts sheer, it will not fall in the water. I checked the unit yesterday and the same spinning slinger is not attached and sitting in the bottom of the feeder. Until I can get it re attached, I have disconnected the battery.
I think this must be a design flaw. I would like my money back for the 1st one that was purchased from Bass Pro Shop as well, and exchange this one for one not flawed.

Doesn't throw out as far as advertised, but a good feeder for the price. I've had a few problems with raccoons messing up the spinning plate, chewing through the exposed wire that connects the throwing mechanism to the timer box, etc...
That being said, if you don't want to spend $400+ on a fish feeder, you can't go wrong with this one.

Is this unit heavy duty & reliable? How easy would it be for someone to steal the feeder ?? How securely is it attached to a dock post ??Answers
A:Â
it is heavy duty & reliable (as long as the raccoons don't foul up the spinning plate)the feeder comes with a heavy duty metal ring that mounts to a post (corner of a dock)...the feeder sits inside the metal ring and the ring is closed with a heavy duty bolt (with locking nut and washer)...
I did have someone steal my feeder by unscrewing the nut that holds the metal ring around the feeder...they have to really want the feeder, but it can be stolen...but then again, it is a $150 and not $400+, so a pain in the rear but not the end of the world to take a chance on...

The unit is approx. 40 inches high and 16 inches in diamter. It will hold 2 50 lb. bags of floating catfish food. It is secured to the dock post with three 3/8" lag bolts. They really need to be 1/2" bolts. The strap that holds the feeder to the mount is bolted. Like anything else, it is secure from honest people, but thieves could find a way to steal it. It might be possible to use a lock on the strap to secure the barrell to the mount. Read my review (Smitty4345).1 of 1
