This camera is the best I have had. I have attached several brands to the same tree, this one outperforms many of the competing brands. It takes very nice pictures, they don't look pixelated. I will continue to buy Moultrie products until someone can prove there is something better.

As a previous owner of 2 Moultrie products I was confident I had picked the correct product for my needs. I received 2 camera's at Christmas 2012 and after 4 weeks of service the camera's have done excellent. I had 1 on video and the other taking still pictures. The wide angle view tells the rest of the story I was missing with the old D40 and D60. My wife even commented we could crop off the weather info and frame some of the pictures they took. Battery life is at 97% on the camera talking pictures and 93% on the one taking video. Since being set out they have been through rain, freezing rain, snow, and even 60 plus degree days without a hitch. Well worth the money and easy to use. I will be purchasing more M-80XT's in the future.

I've used this camera since the day I got it and I've been impressed with it so far. It takes good daytime/nighttime pics and it is well worth the asking price. I'll be sure to update this review after more extensive testing.

We have been having a rash of breakins here lately and it was suggested that I get a trail camera for aiding the apprehension of the crooks. After reading reviews of over 75 cameras, yours seems to be the best option for what I need except for the time lapse between shots.Answers

No it doesnt come with an SD card. You have to purchase it seperate. Also, you can set the time between shots.A:Â
You can use it in video mode and get pretty good video and a single still photo for each motion occurrence. You can set it to 4 shot burst mode and get 4 pictures and then set it to 5 second delay which is pretty quick. That should help. But if it's easy to see the camera then it can be stolen. Might want to use the secure metal mounting box as well. Or get a regular security camera setup and DVR.A:Â

It has an "aim" light but have not tried it at night and can't see it during the day. I'm sure I just don't know how to use it but it is very easy to aim and has a wide angle and you don't have to get the position perfect.Details:Â

You can use any regular or HD SD card, up to 32 Gigabyte capacity. The HD cards cost more, but store the images faster.A:Â

No, you can use any SD card. I think there's a limit of 32GB but most cards aren't that large yet. I have had a little trouble with micro SD cards like the ones in your smart phone because you have to use the adapter but otherwise, any SC will work. Most have a number on them and the higher the number the faster they will write so you can experiment to find the best card for your needs. A faster card will save photos faster and read faster when you go to review them on your computer.A:Â

I have three of these cameras, and have walked in front of them at night, to test this very issue. It takes 1-2 seconds for the flash to go off.A:Â
once you turn it on it has a 30 sec delay and after that it takes pic every 5 secA:Â
They don't offer an exact time in their literature but from experience I have found it to be under 2 seconds. Maybe less. If an animal is running you will probably not get it but I have captured bobcats in a trot and they are in the center of the photo and sometimes another shot on the edge of the photo.Answers

This camera will work with the Moultrie power panel accessory. That's the one with the built in battery and solar panel. It's 12V so I'm not sure the 6v solar panel would work. 8-AA batteries equals 12v so probably not. There is a power port on the bottom so it's worth a try but I don't think it would work. The 12v power panel works well, though as long as it's in the sun most of the daytime.

The "night range" is the distance the flash reaches, so it is irrelevant in daylight pictures. I have found it to trigger on motion at about 50 ft, day or night.A:Â
The 60ft is the max it will pickup a moving object at night and the flash is supposed to glow that far but I would rate it at 30-40 ft for practical purposes. Anything 60ft away from the camera you will barely be able to see. In the daytime the IR sensor will be the same range but of course you can see a lot more because of the light.Details:Â

It comes with a long strap to put around a tree. You need to buy 8 AA batteries, and an SD card. 2 Gigabyte cards are plenty large in capacity. He may want 2 cards, so he can swap it in the field and take the card back home to review.Then you also need a card reader (Moultrie make a good one for about $28), unless his computer has a slot on it to insert the SD card (my newer Mac laptop has one).

The flash is a red glow that does NOT spook deer. I recently had a 6 year old buck hand around in front of my camera for over an hour and had his picture taken 175 times, without ever spooking. Many other deer have stayed in front of the camera, and keep coming back.A:Â

It doesn't "flash" like you think of a flash. It has LED bulbs that you can barely see glow of a faint red color when it takes pictures. You can see it in pure darkness but it won't really attract attention and I've never noticed it scaring animals away. They do look at it when it takes a picture, though. If you want absolutely no flash you can get the M80 Black model which is completely dark at all times.A:Â

The camera does not flash with a bright light your normal everyday picture camera. Instead, it uses LEDs that use a infra-red light that has a low red glow at night that is almost unnoticable to us and wildlife rarely ever know its in the world so it does not spook game. Hope this helps.Details:Â

the m-80xt had better reviews so i took a chance at itA:Â
The M80 is last years model. The M80 XT adds the new features like motion freeze to make night pics less blurry. It also adds 3 pictures burts capture so instead of one picture or 3 pictures a few seconds apart it can take 3 fast pictures almost like 3 frames of a video so you can capture a deer lifting up his head or an animal jumping and not just one pic and then two blank ones because he's out of the picture. The M80 black adds "invisible" flash which is a black plastic filter over the flash LED's because since they are technically "near infrared" there is a faint glow of red when taking pictures at night and the deer can see it because most of my night pictures the deer are looking directly at the cameras. The New black model doesn't have that at all.1 of 1
