Rated 3.4 out of 5 by 57 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Motorguide wireless trolling motor I recently purchased this trolling motor because my old motorguide finally gave out. I also bought it with the remote wireless control. After installing it on my Ranger, we took it out for a trial run and found that the ease of control to be wonderful. I was able to fish in situations that i haven't been able to fish before due to being avle to go to the rear deck and fish. I like the continous on when the motor is turned on it let me set the correct speed with the wide range of speed in the variable speed control. Setting the motor on a lower speed and letting it run while fishing allowed me to concentrate more on fishing than turning operating my trolling motor. The wireless remote is wonderful for aloowing fingertip control of the motor even if you are at the other end of the boat. All I can say is "WAY TO GO MOTORGUIDE!!!" You guys have really outdone your self with this motor. Now the real test. Let's see if I can get the same service out of this one that I got out of my old one... 20 years... let's go fishing!!! Rated 2 out of 5 by noisy!!!!!! whats up with this noisy trolling motor?when you turn from side to side the electronic motor that turns the shaft is too loud to be on the water.stick with the cable operated.the motor works well and is user friendly, but that wont make a difference if you are scaring the fish away.cant believe motorguide cant do better than this. Rated 3 out of 5 by dissapointing Had this motor going on my 3rd year, and its been in for repair twice and needs to go again. First and second time it was covered under warranty..The transmission has failed for the second time now (out of warranty). Other than that the motor works flawlessly. Had a MinnKota V2 power drive previous to my Motorguide, and you need 3 feet to operate it. Love the wireless foot pedal on the motorguide,. Its not hard to pull up or put into the water, so all the winers need to get some muscles and quit complaining about something so meanial. Even minnKota has it problems. I will probably buy another wireless Motor guide, even though I had problems because I like the way it proformed and you can't beat the price...Drive it like you stole it because it has a 2 year warranty, and you want to shake the bugs out then. Only give 3 stars, because if it can go 5 years without a problem, it don't deserve 5 stars. Nothing does.... June 10, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by so far so good Works well on my 22' tr-toon even in moderate winds. Only problem is the noise from the steering motor and the beep of the receiver everytime you select an action gets a little annoying but I've gotten used to it. April 13, 2012

A:
There is no reverse, per se. If you point the front of the motor toward the rear it will act like a reverse, but don't plan on getting your mount to that position as quickly as though you had a trolling motor with a reverse. So, yes, it is common for a bow mount cordless not to have a reverse. Mine is mounted on a pontoon boat.

I haven't timed it, but a slight tap on the footpedal and the response to the motor is almost instantaneous. It may require a couple of taps to turn the motor as sharply in the direction you wish to go. The same is true when increasing or decreasing speed.

Response varies, sometimes it reacts with the first input sometimes you got to hit it several times and then turns way past where you wanted. Junk

A:
If your asking if the whole unit can be removed from its mount off your boat to be stored away then the answer is yes but the mounting plate that holds the Motorguide wireless troller onto your boat stays on. They do sell a plastic cover that can go over the mounting plate when the troller is removed, to give your boat deck that clean look.

The mount is a permanent mount. I have a mount plate cover over it when the trolling motor is not being used to prevent any injury from someone (including myself) who may enter the pontoon boat using the front gate.

Measure the distance from the tip of the bow of your boat to the water line. Then, add 24"-30". That should get you in the ball park.

get the longest shaft you can afford. In high waves, it pays to high longer shafts. And you can adjust it to make it shorter when you are in the skinny water.

go for 60 inch.

A:
No, that won't work. The motor, if you're buying a new one, comes with a mounting bracket. You need to use that one. The wireless motors actually pick up and deploy in a different way than any other motor--even other MotorGuides. In fact, because of this you can not use a trolling motor mounted transducer with the cable twisted around the shaft. You will have to mount your transducer for a thru-hall use in the bow, or get the version with the transducer already in the foot of the motor (for Lowrance units). Also, the plug is a three wire application.

It's not difficult. You are actually reaching for the lever that releases the motor from its locked down position. That lever is back from the end of the bow a little bit.

Shouldn't be necessary to reach over the bow as the motor returns to the cradle by raising it straight up. I've fished in 60+ feet of water and had to pull it up to move as well as 2 feet of water with no difficulty. I was actually more afraid that my prescription sunglasses would fall into the water when I tried to raise the motor, but that hasn't happened yet.

It's a little uncomfortble reaching out that far. I'm a big guy and old and I've not fell out yet but I always feel like I have to brace myself well before stowing the motor. Also, when I pull the motor up the stow position, I have to reach down and turn the motor manually with my hand so it will go in the lock position and that's a pain.

A:
It is very awkward to cradle the motor when changing spots. On a windy day in a light boat (anything aluminum) if you are too close to shore and are not quick bringing the motor up you will be blown onto the bank before you can get it stowed. It won't really send you overboard but it is difficult to cradle it and drop it back in quickly and quietly.

There is no rip cord to assist like their is in foot pedal models so you have to lean over it, bring it straight up and then lean it back into the cradle. Very awkward design and can be hard to control. If you leave the motor facing straight in front of the boat, the prop adds too much resistance when bringing it up. You have to cut it 90 degrees to bring it up quickly and that is difficult as soon as its almost out of water when you have the full weight of the motor to contend with.

Do not buy it. If you are used to a foot pedal design, stick with that. This is a good model TM for showing new boaters like myself what NOT to buy. Every experienced boater that has fished with me in tournaments on my boat hates my TM and for good reason. Its a truly horrible design and I can't wait to get rid of it.
