I bought this variable speed trolling motor because I borrowed a Motor Guide 45 lb 5 speed and the pelican 10 ft boat would not slow down enough to troll for crappie. This motor goes from dead slow to 4 mph. I really recomend a variable speed for any one.

Works well in both saltwater and freshwater! I use it on my kayak, and my 14 foot bay boat.

This motor has it all . It replaced a old Minn Kota variable speed 50 lb. thrust motor that had seen its better day. I had some doubts about not going back with the same brand, but this Motor Guide Varimax 55 is a step above any motor I've ever owned.Ease of use, quiet, and the battery seems to be less drained,oh and the power is outstanding.this motor for the money is a must buy.

Bought the motor with some trepidation because I spent more $ than I planned. But I'm very pleased with my choice. It is a well made motor with a stainless shaft and aluminum transom mount , it has plenty of power and barely drains the battery after trolling all day. The battery level indicator is handy and I check it more than I need to. My only complaint is I'd prefer the power cord was longer, but I think it is standard length industry wide. I totally recommend this Motorguide.
