Rated 5 out of 5 by great purchase I installed the mounting plate on my 17' starcraft boat . installalation was easy ( about an hour ) works great for easy removal of trolling motor mount , also makes my boat cover fit better. Sofar it seems pretty solid when trolling May 23, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Not for use if putting over carpeting I own a Lowe Fish & Ski and wanted to be able to remove trolling motor and mount without unbolting which is what this product is designed for, however, most of the aluminum Fish & Ski's come with carpet on the nose of the bow and when installing and tightening the "middle bar" it sunk into the carpet about 1/4" which then makes the alignment a 1/4" lower to make alignment for the "outter bar" which is attached to the trolling motor mount. The "outer bar" would slide on the carpet and could not get enough downward pressure to sink into carpet to get in line with "middle bar". Tried building "middle bar" up with washers but it made the bar unstable. My plan is to call Motorguide Tech support and see if they may have a solution. June 27, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by great product I am very pleased fits good and tight never have to drill trolling motor holes in my boat again. October 27, 2010

Hi, Part # MGA501A2 (SKU 1224858) is not compatible with any Xi5 trolling motors and is not a lockable mount. The mounts that are compatible with the Xi5 trolling motors are part #'s 90100002 (SKU 2111454) and 90100001 (SKU 2110897) these both accept a padlock. Thanks!

Not that I can see. They would have to take the time to unbolt it though. There is no quick release.

The smaller insert piece is secured to the boat with stainless steel bolts, washers, and nylon lock nuts providing a solid base. The larger outside piece slides into place from the front of the boat and is held in place by a tab on the inner piece with a stainless steel pin running through both pieces at the back of the mount.
