From the back coves to the big water, MotorGuide's Freshwater Bow Mount Trolling Motor series has you covered for the long haul. The Freshwater Bow Mount Foot-Control Trolling Motor series comes in 12 and 24-volt models with 5-speed and digital variable speed power systems. The motor's dependable rack and pinion steering system has been in the MotorGuide line for several years and is a very simple straight forward design known for its long lasting durability. Thrust ratings for the Freshwater Foot-Control models run from 46 to 71 lbs. of thrust.

The Gator® Flex 360 Mount is built from proprietary XK360 die-cast lightweight aluminum, and its strength-to-weight ratio optimizes boat performance and its unique isolator feature protects the motor in shallow water and heavy cover situations. The chart below indicates which models include the Gator Flex 360 Mount.

The 20.8 Gator Breakaway Mount is built with an extruded aluminum base and hinged door that allows the prop to be stowed in either direction (inside or outside the boat) for added versatility. The chart below indicates which models include the #20.8 Gator Breakaway Mount.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Gues I'm lucky I have the FW 46 with the gator mount. I have had no problems what so ever. Now, I don't use it that much (maybe 25 times) but so far it has worked great. If this in indicitive of the quality of motorguide, they have a customer for life. September 22, 2007
Rated 1 out of 5 by dont buy Bought this motor 5 months ago...and it has been nothing but problems. I have broken the steering cable twice already, and no matter how i try to replace it, it still is situated just right to either place strain on the cables, or prevent a full range of motion (to its credit, it only takes about 30 min. to replace the cables). The speed modulator went out a month ago, so all i have had for the past month is the 3rd, and 5th speed, meaning it was impossible to move into any cove quietly. Will not be buying another of these motors ever again. September 19, 2007
Rated 1 out of 5 by Not recommended I purchased this product in the #70 thrust model. Immediately the shaft adjustment knob stripped out and shaft will not stay up even when tightened with pliers. Gator flex mount is junk. Now it has developed a leak in motor and basically burnt up and I haven't had it for a year. Don't buy this product. July 11, 2007
Rated 1 out of 5 by sadly disappointed purchased a new boat in the spring of '04 the came with a fw71 bow mount. unlike most of the reviews here, i've had just about everything else go wrong with the motor. first off, the steering cables do not have very much flexability and when the motor is stowed it bends over where they enter the motor head. we believe this is what has caused the 2 broken cables. no matter what way the shaft is turned your either loosing your turning radius or crimping the cables. also, the shaft bearings locked up after just one season. when we replaced them, they were the cheapest looking bearings i've ever seen. the prop tends to work itself loose if you run through any grass and we've had to wrap tape around the threds to keep it from comming off. lastly, under the power button on the foot pedel is a rubber dust cap that also acts as a spacer. the rubber had dry rotted and tore through, thus eliminating the necissary filler between the pedel and the actual power button underneith. a quick fix with a piece of an old tube bait cured this problem and has lasted longer than the original part. the motor has plenty of power, but needs better componets around it to make this a good product. While operating, there is approximately 4 ft. of cord leading up to the foot control pedal depending on how shallow or deep you have the motor running in the water. Thanks!

On a 24 volt system when using 2 - 12 volt batteries. Connect the positive post of the first battery to the negative post of the second battery. Connect the positive post of the second battery to the positive side of the motor. Connect the negative post of the first battery to the ground of the motor or controller. When disconnecting always remove the ground first and when connecting always connect the ground last.

A:
You will want to measure your boat when it is fully loaded with gear and people for a regular day of fishing. Measure from intended mounting location (transom or bow) to the waterline of the loaded boat. Then add 18 inches. That's the shaft length you are looking for.

A:
It appears the shaft length is the actual total length of the shaft. However, some of the shaft extends into the mechanism on top the shaft, and some of the shaft extends into the motor at the bottom, so the actual exposed shaft length is a couple of inches or so less than the listed length.
