From the back coves to the big water, MotorGuide's Freshwater Bow Mount Trolling Motor series has you covered for the long haul. The Freshwater Bow Mount Foot-Control Trolling Motor series comes in 12 and 24-volt models with 5-speed and digital variable speed power systems. The motor's dependable rack and pinion steering system has been in the MotorGuide line for several years and is a very simple straight forward design known for its long lasting durability. Thrust ratings for the Freshwater Foot-Control models run from 46 to 71 lbs. of thrust.

The Gator® Flex 360 Mount is built from proprietary XK360 die-cast lightweight aluminum, and its strength-to-weight ratio optimizes boat performance and its unique isolator feature protects the motor in shallow water and heavy cover situations. The chart below indicates which models include the Gator Flex 360 Mount.

The 20.8 Gator Breakaway Mount is built with an extruded aluminum base and hinged door that allows the prop to be stowed in either direction (inside or outside the boat) for added versatility. The chart below indicates which models include the #20.8 Gator Breakaway Mount.

Rated 2.8 out of 5 by 38 reviewers.
Rated 1 out of 5 by 71# Motor Guide One of these came with my boat, and I have broken 2 of the mounts. The die-cast aluminum is junk. You pull up on the cord and if the pin doesn't release all the way... snap. The gear guide inside the head broke too. The motor is starting to sound like a helicopter so it will probably go soon. --- Do not buy on of these! April 23, 2009
Rated 1 out of 5 by steering cable breaks I replaced my older 24 volt motor guide with a new 71lb. The battery wiring did not work with the new one, causing it to spin extremely slow and make clickig noises.(had to re-wire) The worst part is that the steering cables are junk. With not much use the cable came apart. I tried my best several times to fix it but never could. Motorguide was no help at all in replacing the part. August 10, 2008
Rated 1 out of 5 Junk I got this motor "71digital" from a friend. The low speed was out on it when I got it. Took it to a Mercury dealer for repair. $389 later with a complete rebuilt motor, I mounted it on my boat, replacing the MinnKota 12 volt hand control bow mount. It worked great, thought I was in heaven. Second time out, low speed went out again! Dealer said they wouldn't fix it free. Will not ever buy another Motor Guide, going back to MinnKota. Never had any trouble with MinnKota's. June 7, 2008
Rated 1 out of 5 by not a fan I purchased a new boat in june of 2007 and the motor guide 12 volt version was on the boat. The first trip it worked fine but snapped side to side in windy conditions. Thought more time on water would improve my ability. It wasn't me!! It is only April 08 and I've resorted to looking over the bow of the boat to tell which direction the motor is facing. The head slips in relation to the pedal, the arrow on top spins in the wind, and I think to rip it off and throw out for an anchor. I've wanted a new one since the first 2 weeks. The average run time was o.k.. April 21, 2008

While operating, there is approximately 4 ft. of cord leading up to the foot control pedal depending on how shallow or deep you have the motor running in the water. Thanks!

A:
On a 24 volt system when using 2 - 12 volt batteries. Connect the positive post of the first battery to the negative post of the second battery. Connect the positive post of the second battery to the positive side of the motor. Connect the negative post of the first battery to the ground of the motor or controller. When disconnecting always remove the ground first and when connecting always connect the ground last.

A:
You will want to measure your boat when it is fully loaded with gear and people for a regular day of fishing. Measure from intended mounting location (transom or bow) to the waterline of the loaded boat. Then add 18 inches. That's the shaft length you are looking for.

A:
I am posting a chart for reference.

A:
It appears the shaft length is the actual total length of the shaft. However, some of the shaft extends into the mechanism on top the shaft, and some of the shaft extends into the motor at the bottom, so the actual exposed shaft length is a couple of inches or so less than the listed length.
