My problems were solved after programing the remote into the reciever, which was very easy to do. From anywhere in the boat I can control the trolling motor and the response is instant. July 25, 2011

I read somewhere...

Details: 
There's a mount/strap(?) that will let you secure the remote to any fishing rod you use in seconds and let you operate it with the hand holding the rod, directly above the reel....makes sense, now I can't find it, anyone???

No it would sink, but you will be attached to your battery wiring so it should not ever be in danger of dropping.
