Highly useful little gun This shotgun Mossberg 500E series Model# 50104 (5+1 capacity with 2-1/2 inch shells) is the first Mossberg shotgun I purchased. It is a good little gun for field use,and it is also highly adaptive for home defense tasks, all one need do is purchase an 18.5 inch cylinder choke barrel, remove the magazine plug, and load it up with Federal Buckshot loads (2-1/2 inch '000',3-inch '000', or my favorite,3-inch #4 buck). The Federal #4 Buck load can be used with the vent ribbed full choke barrel, but the large buck loads give very very loose patterns. The 18.5 inch Security barrel is meant for guns with a 5+1 capacity (when 2-1/2 inch shells are used) and performs very well with the larger buckshot loads and slugs (was able to shoot point of aim using Winchester 3-inch 1/4 ounce slugs at 100 yards with the cylinder choke security barrel). This .410 works well as a game gun and a defensive option (with the right loads and the 18.5 inch security barrel) for those that are not able to take the recoil of a heavier gauge. And its just plain fun to shoot. Mossberg has a real winner here. September 27, 2014
Great Buy Great gun, no jams or missfires can't wait to go hunting with it. November 11, 2012
good gun i got this gun last year for my birthday, took it hunting the next week and killed 5 squirrels and 1 rabbit and many more as the year went on. the thing i like the most is how it feels and very light weight. i was going to get a scope for it at first but soon found out that it wasint needed, love the sights. all in all this gun is just as good as a gun triple the cost. never gonna part with it and cant wait until hunting season comes back August 17, 2011

A:
If your kid has shot a gun before, even a air gun is good, then a .410 gauge would be good for him. Plus, a .410 is a great gun for beginners. But if you plan to go hunting, get him a 28 or 20 gauge shotgun for him instead.

Nothing. .410 gauge shotguns are made for the range, not hunting. So that's all you can hunt. If you want to do bigger, get a 28 or 20 gauge shotgun instead. If you do a 20 gauge, you can hunt deer.
