Mossberg® 500 All Purpose Shotgun - Black
I've had this gun for 7 years now and it has been a great addition to my gun cabinet. Very simple, you pump it and pull the trigger and I have yet for it to jam or fail to fire. It will bust up some clay pigeons just as good as guns twice the price and will put a turkey down in a heartbeat. I haven't been impressed with the buckshot pattern, but I've only tried one load. It's very easy to find parts and replacement barrels for this gun as well. It's not the prettiest, but it gets the job done in the field.

this one of the best shotguns ever it has never failed me it has been in pouring rain and blizzards with me and has not once had a problem it can be relied on. i put over 500 rounds through mine before cleaning it for the first time. I live in Michigan so it has many more harsh hunts in its future. The only complaint i have is the forarm is a little shaky

overall great gun for the money
I purchased this model mossberg 500 so a 60s era winchester 12ga pump, that I like a lot, would not have to do all the work. After taking the new mossburg apart to look for and smooth factory sharp edges, I found it to be a quality design and looks to be a reliable product. It cycles and ejects smooth and crisp. Sites down the barrel rib nice. the barrel it comes with is ported. it has a front.site and a site pin half way down. if I cant get used to the pin it just unscrews. I like the placement of the safety on the top of the receiver, it moves from safe to fire smooth and quiet, an easy thumb movement . The forestock is noisy, probably some kind of fix out there. lots of aftermarket available for the mossburg. the stocks buttplate pad is plenty soft , I dont like how sticky it is thou, it does not slide on your clothes enough for quick shoulder placement. Another place for a fix. Overall the gun feels good, I like it. Price was not big factor, I shouldered all the major players in a pump and I liked this one. Plus it is marked made in USA on the receiver.
I have something nice to say about Bass Pro. I have shopped and bought from other sporting good stores and gun shops, this my 3rd gun from Bass Pro. I bought this shot gun on a Friday nite, the sales people behind the gun counter were very helpful and casual, I would feel comfortable shopping there again. I bought the last gun (the display) so it had a trigger lock to be taken off. Putting the gun back in the box a plactic bag with 2 extra chokes and a choke wrench fell out. On my drive home my phone rings, it is a sales person telling me about the bag, it was to late to go right back so this person suggests to mail it, I say yes, figuring it really would not happen. The very next Tuesday the parts are in my mail box! I am pleased with this kind of attention to detail. Thank you.

You get what you pay for
I have hunted just about every hunt-able bird in Kansas with one of these, and it’s just ok. On the up side, its cheep, easy to use, and doesn’t seem too picky about what ammo you feed it (the only stuff mine didn’t really handle well were some old reloaded paper rounds). Now for the down side, it doesn’t shoulder well for me, and it’s made of cheap parts. I have had trouble with my gun dropping shells in the duck blind. I’m assuming that during repeated heavy recoil from the magnum shells that the shell stop became bent. I have replaced it with another one, and it did the same after some time, so now I just bend them back and switch them out in the field when one starts to go and that seems to work. Over all I think this is just a case of you get what you pay for.
