This is the first shot gun for my son. He shot 2 boxes of shells in the first weekend. Good shooting well balanced for smaller shooters. Good gun and comes with certificate to purchase discount barrel and stock as he grows.

Is there a slug barrel available for this gun or will the regular 20 gauge slug barrel fit?
Details:Â
Can I use slugs in this?I am a very older adult (55!), and I'm JUST learning about FIREARMS.
And I'm a little guy--only 5'2", 125 lbs,
Looking for something for plinking...I DOUBT hunting (but who knows)...and for home protection. So I'm looking for a starter gun at low cost that will do maximum duty for minimal needs.
Can I use the 20 with slugs, and NOT do this with the 410? Or I can't use slugs with either? (I understand that the 410 may be fixed choke.)
THANKS!

First, if your using guns for home defense, use a pistol of a .22 rifle. Personally, the .22 rifle is better. But secondly, yes, just that the slug isn't as accurate. You can either purchase a slug gun instead or get a fully rifled shotgun barrel. My father is 62 and he is like you. He uses a Remington 870 youth 20 gauge though. Use that instead.Answers

do you think this would be a good starter shot gun for him?Answers
A:Â
First of all, you should get him a .410 gauge or 28 gauge unless you plan him to hunt. Second, go to his local range and see the rules. Or just check Florida state gun rules.Happy shooting!

This gun must be handled to appreciate the short size and smaller grip stock, designed especially for youths. Mossberg also includes a coupon in the box for a full size stock and forearm when your nephew outgrows this gun.A:Â
The laws would depend on the state and shooting range i would guess. Ask your shooting range on the laws and there regulations. Along the lines of a starter gun. This guns recoil is amazing with the pad on it, and is super durable and easy to clean. I believe, if you showed the little guy how to do it. he could easily do it himself.1 of 1
