Highly useful little gun This shotgun Mossberg 500E series Model# 50104 (5+1 capacity with 2-1/2 inch shells) is the first Mossberg shotgun I purchased. It is a good little gun for field use,and it is also highly adaptive for home defense tasks, all one need do is purchase an 18.5 inch cylinder choke barrel, remove the magazine plug, and load it up with Federal Buckshot loads (2-1/2 inch '000',3-inch '000', or my favorite,3-inch #4 buck). The Federal #4 Buck load can be used with the vent ribbed full choke barrel, but the large buck loads give very very loose patterns. The 18.5 inch Security barrel is meant for guns with a 5+1 capacity (when 2-1/2 inch shells are used) and performs very well with the larger buckshot loads and slugs (was able to shoot point of aim using Winchester 3-inch 1/4 ounce slugs at 100 yards with the cylinder choke security barrel). This .410 works well as a game gun and a defensive option (with the right loads and the 18.5 inch security barrel) for those that are not able to take the recoil of a heavier gauge. And its just plain fun to shoot. Mossberg has a real winner here. September 27, 2014
good gun i got this gun last year for my birthday, took it hunting the next week and killed 5 squirrels and 1 rabbit and many more as the year went on. the thing i like the most is how it feels and very light weight. i was going to get a scope for it at first but soon found out that it wasint needed, love the sights. all in all this gun is just as good as a gun triple the cost. never gonna part with it and cant wait until hunting season comes back August 17, 2011
Solid gun for the price I am extremely happy with the purchase of this gun. For starters i love the look of it. The gun cycles extremely well with the plug in or out, have been blasing a ton of skeets with this thing for a few months now and have not had a single jam. I also love the sites on it. It has beaded sites and not those awfull flouresent ones. It is extremely easy to site and have been loving the consistancy of it. Can get a rifled barrel for it also at a very good price which is another bonus if you plan to take this gun hunting. The only downside is that the barrels will rust easily so you have to oil them up if your gonna store it for a while. In summary this gun just doesnt feel like a 300 dollar shotgun, it feels, shoots and looks like it should be double the price. September 8, 2010
Amazing Gun!! I love this gun i got it when i was first getting into hunting before i got all the rest of my guns but i still use this one. This is the ultimate grouse, rabbit, pheasant, snipe and all small game gun! It's super lightweight and very smooth. Great beginner gun, can;t go wrong with it. June 1, 2011

Yes but it depends on the kid. Like when i was 8 i could shoot a .12 gauge but if he's not comfortable with that i'd go for the .410 ga.

If your kid has shot a gun before, even a air gun is good, then a .410 gauge would be good for him. Plus, a .410 is a great gun for beginners. But if you plan to go hunting, get him a 28 or 20 gauge shotgun for him instead.

You can shoot anything from small game to 400 lb hogs. My brother and i have personally shot hogs from 80 to 400 lbs with .410 shotguns. As long as you dont try to use bird shot or shoot it in the butt LOL have fun.

A:
Nothing. .410 gauge shotguns are made for the range, not hunting. So that's all you can hunt. If you want to do bigger, get a 28 or 20 gauge shotgun instead. If you do a 20 gauge, you can hunt deer.
