You can shoot slugs with this gun. I do not reccomend it! Mossberg 500's are ok as long as you are just shooting light game loads. I have seen many of them foul the extractor in the field shooting larger magnum loads and slugs just because of the cheap manufacturing of the gun. I would personally recomend upgrading to the 835 model which is made to take the large magnum loads and I would also reccomend that you purchase a slug barrell which will allow you greater accuracy and distance.1 of 1
