I purchased this reel about 6 monthes ago. I fish every week with reel and it seems no matter what I do or what line I use, this reel always has my line in a tangle. I have been so frustrated with this product. It is such a waste of time taking this reel out on the water because all I end up doing is trying to keep it from tangling up on me or i sit there stripping my line off. I want to return it but i don't know if BPS will take it back just for line tangle. Thumbs down for this item.

This is a great looking reel from a great company, but unfortunately it is a dog. I bought the 310XGE early in the season '07 and fished the heck out of it. It felt great, smooth retrieve and great drag, but this model will twist up any line you put on it; I replaced the line several times and lost an unfortunate number of lures due to the line twist this reel produces. Save yourself from heart ache and stay away.

I've used the Mitchell 300XGE for about 1 year in saltwater applications - primarily surf jigs and pier fishing. I am a 35 year Mitchell reel user and though the 300XGE doesn't have that 'built-like-a-tank' feel similar to those built decades ago, it is tight, smooth-running, well-constructed and I really enjoy fishing with it - almost hoping to hook that 8-15 pounder that will certainly challenge the reels limits... Used about twice a week, it seems to do everything well and manages trout, whiting, flounder, and snapper blues easily. The drag is good, the bail has functioned flawlessly, and casts like a dream. With rinse after use and monthly lube, it still looks and performs almost like new. The ONLY reason why I can't give the 300XGE an 'excellent' rating is because the price is $5-$10 too high to not have a feature such as anti-rust bearings. I certainly recommend...

Mitchell has completely revamped the 300XGe series of reels. The frame itself has a soft touch feel. The bail wire is really big and feels stronger. The spool now has a titanium coated lip. Gone are the easy change spool and the wooden handle knob. To be perfectly honest, this reel looks almost like a Daiwa Certate. The drag is even more refined and now features a carbon matrix design. I only gave the previous 310XG a 4 star rating due to the gold rubbing off the handle and it was also a bit loose in the handle assembly. The enhanced "e" revision has improved on this by leaving out a lot of the gold trimmings that it's predecessor had and the handle assembly is now completely solid. I think that people who enjoyed the 310XG as much as I did will love the new 310XGe as well as other sizes in this series of Mitchell Reels. In the end, I feel that the cost difference is well justified.

The Mitchel 300 Xge is left or right handed. The handle can be placed on either side! I would however, go for an other brand, like Diawa, Shimano. Because the quality of the Mitchel reels has gone down dramatically in the past few years. I have a new Mitchel 308 Xe, and I used twice and the bearing are shot in it, it makes the whirring sound when you reel it in. I have older models that are ten years old that work just as new. I also have a 1973, made in France model that works better than all my other Mitchels. It's up to you, but I would buy an other brand.A:Â
This item should be Ambidexterits to be able to switch from handle from right to left by unscrewing the side.1 of 1
