Rated 1 out of 5 by Not the old 300! I'm not impressed at all with this reel. The one I bought is not near as smooth as prior to my purchase and its been used very little...and will more than likely be used very little in the future. October 26, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by legit I got this reel as a birthday present last year and it is AWESOME!!! well it was... because i took it catfishing and it got pulled into the water and never found it. It is awesome for almost any type of fishing. ive used it on largemouth, smallmouth, bluegill, tilapia, channel cats, and many others.. do yourself a favor. buy this reel July 1, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Price Mitchell is really on to something here. I have used this reel for over five years, and I wouldn't buy anything else. Most people think the GXe isn't as nice as the higher priced reels, but they are mistaking. The action in this reel is as smooth as it was the first day out of the box. All I can tell you, look at the bearings in this monster and don't be a price snob. Mitchell has made a quality and affordable product, because they understand fishing. But you still have to catch the fish! April 24, 2010
Rated 1 out of 5 by Dont Buy This reel develops a tangle every few casts. I tried changing line a couple times. Lastly changed it to berkley original fireline which does not tangle, and it still tangled up. It tangled up going down the river through the rapids and caused me to snap the tip of a Loomis Bronzeback series rod ($210). I just hope Bass Pro Takes this piece of garbage back. And some how compensates me for all the other money this reel has cost me. June 28, 2009

The Mitchel 300 Xge is left or right handed. The handle can be placed on either side! I would however, go for an other brand, like Diawa, Shimano. Because the quality of the Mitchel reels has gone down dramatically in the past few years. I have a new Mitchel 308 Xe, and I used twice and the bearing are shot in it, it makes the whirring sound when you reel it in. I have older models that are ten years old that work just as new. I also have a 1973, made in France model that works better than all my other Mitchels. It's up to you, but I would buy an other brand.
