MirrOlure Top Dog
top dog jr
I purchased a red head/ white body top dog jr. about a month ago and have been using it in Murrells Inlet, SC. I have had great luck with that lure, the fish fight over it. I caught 4 Redfish in the 10 pound range the first few trips I used it on. However, last week I hooked a whopper Redfish and after 10 minutes of fighting he broke free. When I reeled in I saw that the hook had straightened. That was very disappointing to me because I was guessing he could have been 20lbs. I use 12lb test and I just can't understand why the hook would straighten before the line would break. I rated this lure 4 stars because of this. Change the hooks and it's definitely a 5 star lure.

If you want to single out the biggest fish in the area, then tie one of these bad boys on! In the past, I've caught monster summer trout on this lure off of West Timbalier island, Fourchon beach, and Grand Isle beach, but I just recently tried it out in 1'-2' of water in the marsh , and the results were spectacular! The reds almost come completely out the water to hit this bait! Even a miss is just as exciting as landing one. The only thing I don't like about this bait is that it's hard to avoid seagulls swooping down and picking it out of the water! Gettt it!!

I am new to saltwater fishing. This is one of the first lures I bought. I have used the Top Dog Jr. in white/red head and the Top Pup in black/white/silver with amazing results for Snook. I only fish them from the shore, but I get results. Cast the lure down the shore, a few feet from the bank, and walk them back, or walk them over oyster beds and grass. Either way, if the Snook are there, THEY WILL HIT IT and scare the heck out of you! If anything could be changed, which you will probably find out yourself, is the hooks. They will get the fish in, but the hook bends easily and even snaps under pressure from pliers while taking the hooks out. Good luck!

This is definitely a lure to have in your bait toolbox. This lure seem to have an attack stimulus for REds and spottred trout out on the flats. It casts exttremely well and mimics the movements of live baitfish. This is one lure everyone should have when fish just won't strike with jerkbaits.
PLEASE NOTE: the star rating should be 5 not 2 but the computer woul;d not take the rating?
