HOLD YOUR GROUND. Built with the legendary performance and durability of a Minn Kota, Talon delivers a fast, secure hold to keep you on top of fish in shallow water. It's the ultimate weapon in the battle for boat positioning. Made of marine-grade extruded anodized-aluminum, Talon can withstand a harsh, corrosive saltwater environment as well as the pounding waves of a freshwater river or lake. Operating from the boat's existing battery setup, Talon vertically deploys the spike without fish-spooking noise. Additionally, the indestructible spike, made with fiberglass reinforced composite material, is guaranteed for life.

Speed
With lightning-fast deployment at the push of a button, Talon makes every second count.
Fast Deploy -- Talon's spike moves quietly through the water, faster than the competition.
Automatic Deploy -- Auto Up/Down lets you deploy Talon by tapping a button on your wireless remote, so you don't have to hold it down and wait.
Two-Stage Deployment -- Talon utilizes a sequential deployment that quickly and quietly moves the spike vertically, so it causes minimal disruption at the bottom and doesn't interfere with your lines.

Power
No matter the conditions, you can stand your ground with the heavy-hitting, relentless power of Talon.
2X Anchoring Force -- Built with nearly double the force of the competition, so you can power  in for the most secure hold on the water.
Auto-Drive -- The Auto-Drive feature powers the spike into the bottom with three successive hits, using increased force on each hit.
Rough Water Mode --  In heavy chop, activate Rough Water Mode, which performs three Auto-Drive sequences at 10 second intervals for an even stronger hold.
Built-in Wave Absorption -- Talon enables your boat to move up or down without affecting the anchor. It works like built-in floating suspension to keep you locked  to the bottom, even in rough water conditions

Stealth
Anchor down without spooking fish, thanks to Talon's quiet design.
Simple Design -- Built with minimal moving parts and no hinge points, Talon starts quiet  and stays quiet.
Noise Dissipation -- The innovative design prevents noise from being emitted below the water or through the hull, where the fish can hear it.

Easy Installation
Talon is as easy to install and adjust as a trolling motor.
Built Smart -- Talon's space-saving, lightweight design is easy to install, and doesn't require messy, complicated hydraulic pumps and hoses.
Versatile Adjustments -- A Minn Kota Quick-Release bracket enables Talon to slide up and down or pivot up to 30 degrees; to easily accommodate any transom angle. You can also easily remove it when not in use.

LED Depth Indicator
Track anchor depth at a glance, with LED lights on the unit that quickly show you how far down you're deployed in one foot increments.

Rough Water Mode
When the winds pick up, activate Rough Water Mode, which performs the Auto-Drive sequences at 10 second intervals for an even stronger hold.

Rugged Construction
Each Talon model is built with saltwater-tested corrosion resistance, thanks to a marine-grade, extruded aluminum body.

Deployment Notification Alarm
If you turn your engine on while the spike is deployed, a Deployment Notification Alarm alerts you that the anchor is down to avoid damage.

Standard Wireless Remotes
Two wireless remotes come standard to give you push-button control of Talon from anywhere on the boat.

Rated 3.7 out of 5 by 14 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by A+ Product I really like my Talon. It took me a total of 35 minutes to install it on my boat with the jackplate side mount. It has a strong gold and deploys fast. A good suggestion would be to purchase the tilt bracket so the Talon can fold down inside the boat when storing, or going under low objects. I give it an A+. August 22, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by Pretty Good Product I purchased and installed the talon on my 19' Nautic star CC exactly one year ago. When I first installed and used this product it was the best thing since sliced bread, No more mud in the boat! Now after a year and many battery changes in remotes, the constant disassembly of the bottom plate and removal of unit from the support mount so that you can clean mud out as it does bind this unit up constantly and now it seems the second stage constantly hanging up on the bottom plate and the agrivation when it does hang up which seems to be every third time I deploy it. The unit seems to have bent on the second stage and I question now the durability over the next year. I think I should have purchased a power pole as this product seems to be more of a hastle than my buddys power pole as we purchased at the same time. July 3, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best Purchase Ever for My Boat !! I installed them on my boat my self, It was easier than installing a fish finder. No pumps, no hassel, 4 bolts and 2 wires each unit. On the water they work perfect. Set sideways in the current so every one can fish down river. Spot red fish in shallow water get ahead of them coast in hit the remote the boat stops and u have already made the cast and hooked up, while others are trying to get trolling motor in the water. The alarm is so soft there is no need to hook that wire up. I can not hear it at all !! The remotes are wonderful. I placed one each side of sterring wheel and a 4 way remote on my wrist . Rated 4 out of 5 by Nice I really like this unit and all it's features. The only drawback is the mounting bracket. I built my own but it's a pain in the neck. May 17, 2012

A:
If you have a jack plate it would be good to get the universal mounting bracket. Bass Pro Shops carries it. It is anywhere from $229-$269. The Universal jack plate bracket is easy to install and can be made to do about anything you want to do with it. It can be used on either port or starboard sides. If you don't have a jack plate you would need a sandwich bracket that goes between the motor and transom. It would be a much harder install with resealing bolts etc.

A:
The Talon will stick up about 2 foot above your out board motor. The overall hight will depend on how high your trailer runners have the boat bottom off the floor. On 8'4" models installed 4" up from bottom of hull they should be 5'4" from bottom of hull.

First, you can buy a mounting plate that allows it to be tilted 30 degrees for going into and out of the garage. If that's not enough you can raise and lower it quite a bit with no tools. If that's not enough you can take it completely off easily with no tools.

The Talon has great holding power. I use mine on the Calcasieu and Sabine Rivers in southwest Louisiana. These rivers are affected by tides. When I put my Talon down it holds me firmly in place in heavy current.

Doubt it will hold, way too many rocks on the bottom and it will not penetrate enough to hold you in the current, it will just drag down the river

From my experience with the talon, it did not stop my boat. The spike just drags on the bottom and you cannot drive it in any further.
