I have a 2012 MAko 17 Pro Skiff. The wife and I do alot of flats fishing. The wife however works the front casting deck...This had been a problem on my other boats, since she loves to forget to stop the trolling motor. So we would run through the fish or ground out.
When we started looking for a trolling motor for our new boat. We both wanted to keep the front casting deck a clear as possible. No more foot controls and its cables to jack with was our goal. We looked at the hand controlled bow mount trolling motors, and discussed her driving. Then I showed her the remote controlled motor. In a heart beat she was willing to let me fork out the extra $400.00 to keep us fishing in peace.
So, now I control the trolling motor with a little hand switch on a lanyard. Don't need to yell at the wife for her lack of trolling motor skills.
This motor has plenty of power, I have the 55lb thrust 12 volt. I've had 4 people in the boat. In 1 1/2' chop going into a 15 knot wind and still make great time. The controller/motor is real responsive. I have no complaints after 6 uses.
The stowing problem others have mentioned isn't a problem. My wife deploys and stores the motor 90% of the time. It is a little tight to get in and out of the cradle. But I think thats a great thing. I don't want the motor deploting when I'm running full out.
I also added the trolling motor mount where you can take it off the boat when not in use. I'm in a heavy saltwater enviornment. Being able to store this investment inside and out of the elements should extend its life. As well as remedy some of the problems others listed concerning corrosion and electronics going out.

Worst buy I have ever made. Too many moving parts to break. Broke the shaft within the first three weeks of owning the product on a stump at powerlevel #5 (#10 is max) on the foot control. Took another three weeks to get the replacement shaft. Shortly thereafter the effortless stow and deploy fell apart in stages. After 18 mos of owning it and three "indestructable" shafts later (and out of warranty) I had to start mickeymousing the stow and deploy system because I got sick of waiting for parts leaving my boat not on the water. Can't afford another, so I am stuck with this piece of garbage!!!!
Steering is slow, especially at the end of a tournament and doesn't have enough power to cut through the Florida grass.
Another thing is your cant mount a trolling motor transducer.

Rated 1 out of 5 by bigfishken TERRIBLE ALL AROUND!!!
I bought one of these for a 24 ft Fish Master Bay Boat/225 Suzuki. Only good thing I have to say about it was that it was powerful...otherwise worthless. The deploy mechanism was very hard to use and caused me to utter many a curse word not to mention several near hernias. The digital foot control was worthless also...either turned far to quickly winding the cord around the shaft or was so slow to react when you pushed the switch down that I found myself tap dancing on it (more like stomping it) on many occassions.

This is a great way to cover alot of area to find the fish! It is also great for when you find them in shallow water. I have an 18.5' boat and it moves it along very nicely. Decent battery life if you don't run full speed alot. Drawback is that in mine the circuit board went out after about 8 months. Though it was under warranty. Thats why it got 4 stars.
