Non-binding nylon inserts and anti-seize lubricant for a lifetime of trouble-free use. It allows the motor to remove quickly and easily for safe storage.

Broken part after two minutes After installing my new RT80 trolling motor, I went to the lake to test it out. I spent a few minutes adjusting the height and trying out forward and reverse. The throttle became stuck and would not shut off. I had to disconnect the battery. When I returned home, I opened up the handle "elbow" and discovered a broken u-joint and rheostat shaft...... The only way to replace the rheostat is to also replace the control circuit board ($$$), which has to ordered and be done at an authorized service center...... As far as I'm concerned this is a poor design or weak design/material that better be covered under warrantee!!!!! July 29, 2010
garbage tiller broke after two months. get a variable speed motor because the 5 speed is garbage on mine. It actually has what seems like 2 speeds slow and fast. the difference between the first four speeds is minimal but when you click to 5 it takes off. Now that the tiller broke it no longer extends or retracts and only one speed works. I will be getting warranty work but after 2 months a $700 trolling motor should not need work. I know many people with minn kota trolling motors and they are usually good quality but this model needs to go back to the drawing board. January 29, 2011
Worst Trolling Motor ever OWNED!!!!! Nothing but trouble for me the first week I had to have the speed switch replaced. Then the head of the motor fell off because the composite shaft where the screw goes through shattered. I have had this motor for 3 months and I'm in the market for a new on. I have never been more dissatisfied with a product in my life its in the shop more than its on my boat. June 3, 2009
Be Wary Rtp Tide 55 Variable Speed Pros: Runs forever on a charge Cons: 1. The head becomes wobbly. Mounted on my 17' Pathfinder flat bottom flat's boat. Nice chop on the water. Boat took steady pounding up on plane. The head was secured but the pounding caused the bolt hole in the composite shaft to enlarge to the point that the head was very wobbly. This was on just one trip as it was fine when I started out. They had to cut off several inches off the shaft and redrill the hole. 2. The rope release was so hard to use that the plastic rope guide broke. I weigh 225 lbs and it took everything I had to get it to release so that I could put it in the water. And, it didn't get any easier. They also fixed those problems today. 3. Getting the throttle into the stowing position is very very hard. April 5, 2012

A:
No, this model needs a different mount to remove for storage. I think Minn Kota may have a "latch and door" model which allows the motor and shaft to be taken off without an additional mount.

Any battery charger will charge the battery you have, if you have 24 volts you will need a 2 bank charger. If you have another 12 volt battery you need to charge as well you will need a 3 bank.
