Minn Kota's Riptide SM Series Bow Mount Saltwater Trolling Motor features the exclusive Bowguard 360º™ Breakaway mounting system, which breaks away on impact from any angle, then automatically resets itself, protecting your boat and motor from underwater obstacles. Riptide motors feature a three-year manufacturer's warranty.

Bow-Mount Features:
Digital Maximizer™ Technology (On select models indicated in chart below)
By controlling the draw of power at variable speed, Digital Maximizer eliminates wasted energy, extends battery life, giving you more time on the water.
Bowguard 360º™ Breakaway Mount
Breaks away on impact from any position.
Latch & Door (On select models indicated in chart below)
Non-binding nylon inserts and anti-seize lubricant for a lifetime of trouble-free use. It allows the motor to remove quickly and easily for safe storage.
Tilt Twist Tiller™
Multi-position handle can both tilt (up to 45°) and extend (6") to fit the way you fish.
Advanced Corrosion Protection
Control boards are fully encapsulated in marine-grade polyurethane to protect the electronic circuitry.

    Features:
  • Saltwater Engineered-premium-grade marine alloys, are virtually impervious to rust
  • Indestructible Composite Shaft-Pound for pound, stronger than stainless steel
  • Fully Encapsulated Electronics-control boards are fully encapsulated in marine-grade urethane
  • Sacrificial Anode-patented, replaceable anode protects metallic components from galvanic corrosion
Rated 3.2 out of 5 by 11 reviewers.
Rated 1 out of 5 by TRASH! What a joke! First time I went out with the Riptide 55 I had problems with it. First, on speed 5 the locking mechanism doesn't hold and the trolling motor comes up. Second, had problems with the speeds. There is no separation between the speeds. Item returned promptly! This unit is a joke! The 12/55 did move the boat well other than these two problems. Don't waste your time or money. May 13, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Another Good Minn Kota! This is my 3rd minn kota riptide(I have had several different boats and always add a riptide to them) and am very pleased with them. It was easy to install and I've only used this one 3 times so far, but have been impressed to this point. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because when I pull the string to deploy the motor, it takes a lot of force. September 4, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Quality product This is my third Minnkota on three different boats, would not dare to think of buying another brand. This is my 1st 24 volt but its strong and so far high quality. April 9, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by Be Wary Rtp Tide 55 Variable Speed Pros: Runs forever on a charge Cons: 1. The head becomes wobbly. Mounted on my 17' Pathfinder flat bottom flat's boat. Nice chop on the water. Boat took steady pounding up on plane. The head was secured but the pounding caused the bolt hole in the composite shaft to enlarge to the point that the head was very wobbly. This was on just one trip as it was fine when I started out. They had to cut off several inches off the shaft and redrill the hole. 2. The rope release was so hard to use that the plastic rope guide broke. I weigh 225 lbs and it took everything I had to get it to release so that I could put it in the water. And, it didn't get any easier. They also fixed those problems today. 3. Getting the throttle into the stowing position is very very hard. April 5, 2012

A:
No, this model needs a different mount to remove for storage. I think Minn Kota may have a "latch and door" model which allows the motor and shaft to be taken off without an additional mount.

A:
Any battery charger will charge the battery you have, if you have 24 volts you will need a 2 bank charger. If you have another 12 volt battery you need to charge as well you will need a 3 bank.
