I have had this trolling motor for less than 3 months and last time out noticed the motor was making a lot noise when in use. After getting back home and removing the prop the prop shaft was bent! Now I have been very easy on this motor. I don't even recall hitting anything the day it started making alot of noise. The previous motor was a 52 lb motorguide brute that I put through the ringer and worked till the day I bought this 70lb maxxum. Big mistake should have stuck with what worked.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Dearhunter69 I won't do this again!!!!!!
I am sorry to say that after a long relationship with Minn Kota it's time for a "Divorce". I have owned two(2) of the Maxxum trolling motors and unfortunately it has cost me over $2,000. Shortly(about 4 months) after my purchase of my first Maxxum I had gone to Florida fishing and on the 2nd day of a week long fishing trip my motor stopped working. I finally borrowed enough tools to remove the motor and the next day drove to a repair shop about 50 miles from where I was staying. A friendly technician got to me about 2 hrs. later and after a short diagnostic test informed me that I had a "bad card" and ordered me one to be delivered the next day. We got the card and got it installed after lunch the next day so I only lost about 2 1/2 days of valuable fishing time.
Next I was once again out of town fishing in Fla. when the Maxxum unit went out on me the end of the first day(Friday) but this time i had my own tools so I pulled the motor Saturday morning and got on the computer to locate another service center. This time I found one only 35 miles away in Crystal River so I took off. Once again I was fortunate enough to find another friendly technician that quickly determined I had an armature leg that had gone bad. He was able to get an emergency order end and it was delivered 2 days later(monday) about mid-day and I was back fishing by Tuesday.
Next the unit went out(this time pretty close to home) so I took it to a service dealer someone had told me about in Moultrie, Ga. When he opened the unit water ran out and we were once again on the phone to Minn Kota begging for help. Minn Kota finally agreed to send the dealer a whole new lower unit which arrived several days later and was installed without issue.
I later had the new minn Kota I had just purchased to go on my other boat(a river rig) and on a fishing trip(once again to Fla.) the speed control unit went out and all I had was high speed no matter wher you set the dial. Fortunately the unit was only a few weeks old and I was only 60 miles from the dealer where the unit had been purchased so I drove straight to the dealer, handed him my receipt and after a little discussion he agreed to take the unit off.
You think I bought another minn kota? PROBABLY NOT!!!!!!!!!! As a matter of fact, I am about to have to change out the first unit I mentioned above and you can bet "it darn sure won't be a minn kota either. I do want to say that the factory and especially the technicians were as helpful as they could be BUT, with fishing trips like this cost you over a thousand bucks a pop, I have probably "tasted" about all the minn kota i want to taste. As for the rest of you goes, you get all you want. I work hard and fish hard and need to spend my money in a "value added manner".
Have also had 2 friends that have had their share of issues with the minn kota line too.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Troutinator Better than the last one
It was time to update my old MinnKota 40# thrust with something a lot newer and more power for my 18' G-3. I have only used it once and no complaints, works like a champ. Extending and retracting the motor was a breeze. My only issue was the mounting. It took me 3 evenings to mount the new Maxxum. I removed the old one and understood the mounting holes wouldn't line up for the new bracket. No issue. First you have to assemble the motor and directions are not that easy. I am somewhat mechanically inclined, but I was still lost in a couple of steps. Also, the directions neglected to mention several key items such as proper use, adjustments, etc. I looked for additional information and was a little upset that I had to go online to see videos on using the trolling motor. Anyways, all said and done, I love it, my wife loves it (ease of operation for her), and I recommend it to anyone.

Rated 4 out of 5 by BlueBoat98 Just a caution about this motor
This motor came on my Sylvan deep-V which I purchased used. While the motor runs fine and has plenty of power, it is not a good match for this type of boat. The direct cable has to go up before it goes to the motor and this makes it awkward to move the footpad around. The Maxxu is intended for Bass Boats with a large, flat deck. I'm getting a Power Drive or Terrova for this boat as soon as possible.
The other thing I don't like is that you cannot take your foot off the control while the motor is running. The torque of the propeller immediately turns it around and puts you in reverse. Not great for my kind of fishing. So, nothing wrong with the motor, just be careful that it matches your needs.
