Rated 4 out of 5 by BlueBoat98 Just a caution about this motor
This motor came on my Sylvan deep-V which I purchased used. While the motor runs fine and has plenty of power, it is not a good match for this type of boat. The direct cable has to go up before it goes to the motor and this makes it awkward to move the footpad around. The Maxxu is intended for Bass Boats with a large, flat deck. I'm getting a Power Drive or Terrova for this boat as soon as possible.
The other thing I don't like is that you cannot take your foot off the control while the motor is running. The torque of the propeller immediately turns it around and puts you in reverse. Not great for my kind of fishing. So, nothing wrong with the motor, just be careful that it matches your needs.

Rated 1 out of 5 by RaptorRik Minn Kota Motor Failure
I replaced my MotorGuide trolling motor after 12 years of use because I wore out the foot pedal. I switched to a Minn Kota on advice from a friend. After two seasons of use the motor is now in the shop. Somehow the motor housing leaked, filled with water and rusted all the internal brushes and motor. I take meticulous care of my boat and this unit was not abused. To add insult to injury the Minn Kota repair shop has had the unit for 3 weeks and counting. They keep making excuses about parts ordered and meanwhile it’s a very short boating season here in Colorado… I would not buy another Minn Kota.

Finally upgraded from my old 46lb thrust to a 70lb Maxxum. Quiet running, comfortable pedal, easy steering, and I like the variable speed.

Maxxum 80 - Nearly flawless running for 14 years. I once lost a nut that came loose. I then replaced it with one that was similar to the one lost until I could go over to the local minn kota guy. That is all the problems I have had with this motor. The metal parts have some corrosion due to brackish water but it shows how long i have had this machine. I have torchered this motor in the Delta, California. I keep thinking that it is going to have to break sooner or later but it's like the energizer rabbit and I am very glad about it! Buy Minn Kota, they are the leaders in regards to quality and longevity.
