''The new Minn Kota Fortrex is absolutely the toughest, smoothest, and quietest trolling motor on the market. It's practically bulletproof.''
Alton Jones
2008 Bassmaster Classic® Winner
Minn Kota® Fortrex® Bow-Mount Trolling Motors feature an innovative mono-arm design, Counter-Tension Stabilizer (CTS), Lift Assist, indestructible composite shaft, streamlined foot pedal, and digital maximizer™.
Innovative Mono-Arm Design
Features an extruded structural beam that operates with no metal-to-metal contact and 75% less torsion. A single hinge point and rear pivot bearing with 20% more surface area deliver less wear, longer life, and quieter operation than traditional scissor mounts.Counter-Tension Stabilizer (CTS). A Minn Kota exclusive! Integrated spring arm applies force in both the stowed and deployed positions, eliminating motor play and reducing noise. Reduces steering torque at higher speeds or in heavy chop.
Lift-Assist
Patented design cuts the weight of stow and deploy in half. Features a 300 series stainless steel, nitrogen gas-charged spring.
Indestructible Composite Shaft
Pound for pound, stronger than steel. Flexes on impact. Will not break, kink, or corrode. Guaranteed for life.
Streamlined Foot Pedal
The redesigned foot pedal creates more space for your foot, while keeping the momentary button within easy access. In addition, the speed control has been re-designed to provide for easier adjustment.
Digital Maximizer™
Up to five times longer run time on a single charge. Controls the draw of power at variable speeds to conserve battery power and extend run time. Universal Sonar 2
Dual beam capability (with all Humminbird®  DualBeam PLUS™  and select Lowrance® and Garmin® units) provides expanded coverage and greater bottom detail at 83 kHz and 200 kHz. Temperature-sensing compatibility with all major sonar brands. Integrated, concealed transducer is protected from the elements.
Removable Bowguard 360º™
Allows the motor and bowguard to be lifted off the mount simply by removing a single cap screw. This feature also includes a dual bearing system that eliminates noise and allows for improved breakaways from any angle.
Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 12 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great motor easy install I replaced my Maxum Pro and this motor bolted right up to the old pattern. Love the sonor June 24, 2010
Rated 4 out of 5 by Change your screws This motor is a smooth running quiet motor... the mount has a serious issue. When you are traveling with the outboard, and the trolling motor is up, it shears the heads off the 4 screws (part #715 in the parts list in your manual). These screws are 1/4x20x3/4 flat head socket cap screws and they are either stainless or aluminum stock. You need to change these screws to the same size and style screw in TITANIUM. I got my titanium screws from fastenal, a local fastener shop near my house. I suggest you change these screws before even trailering your boat anywhere with this motor on it because once the heads are cut off the screws its an expensive job to have a machinist retap the holes to get them out and minn kota doesnt want to give you a whole new mount. They send you a package of the same low tensile strength stainless screws that broke the first time. Ive done the research for you so now just finding the screws in titanium is your only task. Your very welcome. February 25, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fortrex Rocks! I have recently bought a new Fortrex 80lb. thrust I am more than satisfied easy to mount and the lift assist is great US2 sonar fine working with my Lowrance. Motor is super quiet at low-med speeds and quiet as you would expect at high speeds. I have had several conversations and email exchanges with Minn kota Reps about tech questions,US2, etc. nothing but helpful. if you choose to buy one of these motors go ahead and buy a manual reset 60AMP circuit breaker to run from + lead to troll motor plug Minn Kota has som assc. listed on their website.Bracket already has holes for most bolt patterns. Rated 1 out of 5 by minn kota strikes out Was fooled by Minn Kota Fortrex advertisement such as "The only motor we've ever kept in solitary confinement-We hit it with a sledge hammer, hundreds of hours on the water testing, and only then were we certain it was ready to be unleashed. No play, no give our beefiest, meanest, quietest motor ever. Well, I purchased one three months ago and their is a squeaking/creaking noise coming from the bracket or the Bowguard 360. Also very hard to steer ad higer speeds. It is not the quietest motor ever! Was told to bring to authorized service center (approximately 2 hrs for my home) or ship to factory to be checked out. I request a new motor or my money back. Was told they would try to meet me half way (Half way on a $1,400 new motor) by sending me a prepaid label to send to factory or I could go to authorized service center. Ever try to find a box to ship a trolling motor in? How is that for caring about your long time customer who has owned probably 10 Minn Kota Motors and just spent $1,400+ on a new motor. Needless to say they have one unsatisfied customer who is looking at MotorGuide motors. Take my advice, if this is how much they care about customers, do not buy Minn Kota February 23, 2009

Staff Answer
A:
Measure from the mounting surface to the waterline. For rough water conditions, add 5” to the waterline measurement. For hand-control trolling motors, add 12” to Recommended Shaft Length.
