This was purchased because of trouble griping an anchor an lifting the anchor. This looks like a good design and has a remote so I don't have to move around ever time I anchor or move to another location.

I have purchased 4 of these so far. I bought my first 2 for my 2008 Lowe FM 165. I experienced some shear pin problems so I put nails in them instead of the shear pins. The shear pin problem was the only thing I had any trouble with. The second 2 were for my 2011 Tracker Targa V18 WT. Minn Kota seems to have fixed the pin trouble with the newer winches. I always run 30 lb river anchors and these winches handle them with no issues I haven't had any issues at all with my new winches and they have great pulling power. They are quiet compared to my friends Trac Big Water and definitly more reliable. He is going to replace his Trac with a Minn Kota as it has failed him for the last time. The Minn Kota is more expensive but well worth the money.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by A1parker Great product
I guess only the dissatisfied leave reviews. I bought 2 of the DH40's 4 yrs. ago and love them. I run 25lb anchors and they work great. I'd mount 40lb. anchors on these and never give it a second thought. I move my boat 15/25 times a day , I bought the remote for the front anchor and easily run both anchors when fishing by myself, and have worked these machines hard. I have learned when fighting 4/5 foot crashing waves, to bring the anchors off their mounts and secure in the bottom of the boat, just to not loosen the mount bolts on the machines from the severe crashing of the bow in to the waves. Otherwise, the DH40's are great and one of the best fishing products I have bought.

I used it once at a local lake and had to deal with the issues more than I'm able to fish. Really bad engineering design!

does this come with a dash mounted switch and can this be mounted on underside of a pontoon
Answers
A:Â
Compatible with DeckHand 40 Remote Switch (sold separately)This unit is versatile and can be installed using 3 different methods. The Davit and DH-40 can be combined and mounted directly to the bow, they can be combined and mounted to an optional MKA -16-02 quick release plate which can easily be removed from the bow, or the davit and DH-40 can be separated with the davit mounted directly to the bow and the DH-40 mounted at a remote location. What ever mounting method you choose, there are six basic requirements for a proper installation.

I have a trolling motor and need to get the Deckhand another 1" to 2" out over side of bow so anchor dosen't hit boat on retreival. Is ther any Mini Kota accessorie for this?Answers
A:Â
The new davit will reach out over the side of most boats far enough. I've got mine mounted out over the edge on bow and stern and run 30 lb river anchors. No issues at all. You could also mount on the quick detach bracket.Details:Â
I fish in the Bay, salt water. How will this handle the current, and how will it hold up as far as rusting with the salt water?Answers

This unit is not intended for saltwater use. Saltwater use will void your warranty.http://store.minnkotamotors.com/med...

The DeckHand 40 Remote Switch model 1810150 is our item number 38-529-112-00. Sheer Pin please refer to Minn Kota at 800-227-6433.Answers

I just used the chain that came with it. It comes with about 1 foot of chain. I am not using chain rode on my boat. I just let out plenty of rope and I'm fine. I doubt there is room for the chain to wind up on winch. There are also wires under the cover that will tangle in chain, I pulled a weed up once and it tangled and unplugged a wire under the cover.A:Â
It is not listed in the Owner's Manual. Check with Minn Kota.1 of 1
