Extremely difficult Don't plan on taking this radio anywhere without the directions, "press mode 3 times to change channel-then confirm with PTT", "Hold mode button for 2 seconds to unlock". While your bouncing on a boat, my purchase went in the trash. August 25, 2014
Good value for the price I have purchased several oof these and had trouble with two or three of the units not working properly. Either due to Bass Pro Shops or Midland the units were replace free of charge and no hassle. December 7, 2011
So far, so good I bought this to replace my Uniden handheld which didn't even last a year (never wet or abused...squelch went out). So far so good for the price. It works well and the AC and DC charging capabilities are a plus. January 4, 2011
I would not buy this radio again Does not work as advertized. This radio is awful, push buttons and functions are faulty. I would not buy this junk again. November 4, 2010

Answers

A:
Depends on terrain, I have had mine work about 5 miles on the water, and it was not in line-of-sight. (Islands in the way)

I use mine in the woods almost exclusively while hunting. Decent range on it. Hills should not be a problem.
