this product claims to work for up to 27 or so miles. my experience shows them to only work for under a mile. very disapointed in these midland walkies. i need them for my work and they just werent worth the money that i paid for them.

I used these radios when I went on vacation to the beach, I was impressed with the range of the radio. You can change the channels so that you dont pick up anyone elses radio traffic that may be on the same frequency. Overall Im pleased with the purchase.

No Motorola has the requirment on some of there radios for the FCC license, but midland is a civilian usage only radio. Therefore doesnt require a license. Hope this helped.

Midland radios are amazing radios. I've had multiple ones of all kinds and none of them have ever given out on me. I would recommend the LTX490 as the best one. I currently use it for MilitarySimulation and Hunting and I go through some pretty tough Op's. So to me there not bad at all.
