Rated 1 out of 5Â by NJFishRGuy DO NOT BUY THESE RADIOS!
I bought these while at BPS because one of the fishing magazines had a positive review about them, and they were supposed to have very good range. My fishing buddies and I all bass fish from our own boats and stay in touch via FRS/GMRS radios. I used these for the first time the Saturday before last, and I was sorely disappointed. First, I noticed that they don't have a privacy tone feature; this is a number you can set so that you don't have to listen to other people's transmissions. We don't normally bother with this, but it's been on every radio I've ever purchased, no matter how cheap. Well, no biggie, I figured. Then I got out on the lake, on a dead calm day. When set at maximum volume, you virtually had to hold the radio to your ear to hear it! Both radios in the set were the same way, so it wasn't a defect. I emailed Midland and they didn't deny it, just said to return them to BPS if I didn't like them. Unless you plan to use these inside a quiet, well insulated room, BUY ANOTHER RADIO. They sure as heck aren't usable outdoors and I'm disappointed BPS would even sell them.

depends on location. city half mile or less. on flat land with no obstruction max about 2 milesA:Â
According to Midland the maximum range for the LXT380 Two-Way Radios is 24 miles. This is under optimum conditions. Midland does not list any other range as it will vary based upon the conditions you use the radio in.Optimum Conditions are:
*Over water
*Open rural areas without obstructions
*Flat areas where you can see the other person
To ensure you get maximum range:
*Be sure to use fresh or fully charged batteries - low batteries will
cause low power conditions
*Be sure you are on a GMRS channel - FRS channels are
restricted by the FCC to low power
*Be sure to set your radio to use Hi power.

all frs/gmrs radios will work together as long as they are on the same channelA:Â
Klino: I own the LXT340 Midland walkie-talkies. I have used FRS radios for almost 10 years, principally for mountain climbing, fishing and car to car communication on road trips. Many friends have different models of radios and we have never had any problem communicating to each other as long as the radios are all FRS or GMRS and are in the same channel. My climbing partner he uses a FRS radio by Motorola while I have the Midland ones.Answers
