We recently purchased these for our school - although the clarity is good - the distance in NOwhere close to what is avertised. The ad states these radios are built for ultimate durablity and to military specs - we are very displeassed with the ease in which the antenea and on/off button breaks and the battery seems to be vulnerable too.

These radios surpass any other hand held radios especially when paired with the Midland Stealth Headset. The one thing i will inform you of is that the other users will need to have the same radio for you to really get the full use out of these. Clarity and distance are a key, i cannot specifically say exactly how far these worked but i do know they work great. I went out with another hunter the other day and he didn't have this model but another midland radio and we could barely talk at 200 yards in the woods, with these we got over a mile. We were able to walk down 2 bucks in one day using these radios in the snow. Yes they are more money but they are worth it. The lithium battery is great, the only thing i dont like is when I used it for 8 or 9 straight days hunting without charging, it still said full battery then promptly died in the field. I don't know about the antenna breaking, I haven't had any problems with mine and i don't treat my gear easy.
