Cartridge Replacement Bilge Pump 4.6 5 12 12
great it was very easy to remove the old one and replace . November 13, 2007
verify it is a direct replacement. When my original bilge pump went out about 10 years ago I replaced it with a mayfair because of the quick and easy removal. Getting down in the bilge area and putting new holes in the floor of my boat is not something I ever wanted to do again. My mayfair finally died this year, it froze up I expect from extended salt water use last year and doing 0 maintenance to it. I couldn't find a mayfair replacement at my local stores so I went here to find another mayfair replacement. To my surprise the new pump is not a direct housing swap for the old pump so I'll have to pull up the old hardware and likely put new holes in my floor again. My old pump is great but make sure if you are doing a replacement that the hardware matches. September 20, 2010
mix up I orderde a mayfair pump and received a johnson pump. It took two phone calls and some heated discussion on my part to find out that the cartridges are interchangeable. If something was printed on the packageing or thepaperwork stating that johnson cartriges were interchangeable with mayfair cartridges it would have saved a lot of time and agrivation. replacement pump Very easy replacement cartridge. Actually came with the base and everything to hook up as new, but all I needed was the cartridge. Only takes about 5 minutes to remove the old one and put in the new one, splice two wires. Done. August 18, 2010

universal question

Details:
I have a 2007 tracker pt175 txw.

My livewell pump failed a few weeks ago. Now my bilge pump has also failed. I'm in need of replacements. My question is...I have the standard yellow 500gph mayfair pumps. I want to upgrade to 750 or 1000 gph. Can I do so with just changing the cartridge? And would this http://www.basspro.com/Cartridge-Replacement-Bilge-Pump/product/22441/
be compatible for plug and play (what I need)? Am I looking at the right cartridge?

Thank You for your answers.

Yes to both questions. a 750 or 1000 gph will work in 500gph and you should just need to change the cartridge out.

A:
Yes, they will. I regularly use the gph pump that I can get at the lowest price. I prefer the 750 for the livewells. The 500 isn't strong enough and the 1000 usually doesn't last the season for some reason.

A:
It all depends on how your boat is plumbed(size and angle of the pvc pipes)as to whether a bilge pump or an aerator pump is best. Try to use an aerator pump for your livewells because of its design.
