I have a .35 Remington 336CS Marlin.
If you can pick one up, do so. A great all around rifle. Good up to 200 yrds. Maybe more, but you know that depends on the shooter.

I recently purchased the Marlin 336w as a combo pack with scope and sling and what a great gun. A real pleaser to shoot and carry in the woods. I haven't had the chance to bring down a deer with it yet, since I purchased it after my states gun season was over but I look forward to next years hunting. Super great deal from Base Pro and Marlin both.

Zeroed in in three shots straight out of the box. This is an excellent buy. Price is right. More deer killed by this rifle than any other.

I'll let others debate the advantages of a bolt action rifle in larger calibers vs. a .30-.30 lever action. I own both types. My Marlin 336W is a good gun when stalking in the thick stuff (if I sit on stand over an open field I prefer my bolt action .308). If using your Marlin for deer hunting you will definitely want to check out Hornaday's LeverRevolution round. You can't beat the fun target shooting a lever action gives you. I've owned my Marlin for 4 years now and never had a problem.

Recoil on 30-30 is minimal. My young son uses this rifle for deer hunting and he is able to shoot 2 inch groups at 100 yards as a novice shooter.Answers
