I have owned this gun since it came out in 2007. I have taken two deer so far. I have probably shot 200 rounds through it with my 3X9 Maine Vue scope. I never had a chambering problem, but, now I have a firing pin problem. I reload exactly to Hornady's specifications. About 1 out of every 5-6 do not fire. Marlin does not repair themselves any more. This is unfortunate. I really love this gun. So much I purchased the 338MX this year also. The Hornady FTX bullets are getting a little easier to find. I bought the Hornady dies because the RCBS ones were not available at the time. I still prefer RCBS.

Does this use regular 308 or special cartridges & is the barrel stainless steel Thanks Gary
Answers
A:Â
No. This cartridge was a design by Hornady and Marlin together. It was based on the .307 Winchester. Marlin wanted a more long range lever action rifle. Hence the Flex tip technology. It has about the same recoil as a 30-30. Available in Blue or stainless. For some reason the stainless barrels are two inches longer.1 of 1
