Marlin 1895 Lever Action Rifle
I had never shot the 45-70 classic other than sighting and practice, until a 500+# black bear broke into my house in Florida. I shot him in the head and he dropped. Feet folded back, and fell over. I am 64 and feel very secure with this rifle. The recoil is not as hard as a Rem 30-06 as far as I am concerned. At under 100 yrds. this is the rifle to stop them DEAD.
See facebook victor peters Oct 22. The plate is 9" for reference. He was 44" at the shoulder and 76" from nose to base of tail. They said he would stand 7 1/2' to 8' tall on his hind legs. If I didn't have the Marlin, I would have been terrified. The only other weapon I had was a Glock .40-Model 27. Love my Marlin.

I was hesitant to buy a newer Marlin after reading all of the mixed reviews. I own an older 336 and it is a great gun. Smooth, accurate, and reliable. The first thing that I noticed about this rifle was that the action was somewhat rough. I disassembled and lubed everything. I noticed that the parts are well machined, with no burs, rough edges or tool marks. After 60+ rounds trough it, the action is becoming smoother. The Microgroove rifling makes for a very accurate weapon and the sights are good too. It is easier to take apart and clean that other lever guns, and the price is reasonable. All in all I'm glad I purchased this rifle.

I bought this as my first rifle, took it to the range use the 405 grain I bought with it, and the the 325 grain Hornady, both worked great. (Hornady was better and cost less) The recoil was a little more than I planned on since I had not fired a rifle since I was in the Army in the mid 70's, so I bought a limbsaver slip-on sissy-pad that should make it easier on the old shoulder, the rifle shoots great, looks great. I have no issues with workmanship or anything else. Love this Gun.

Have not fired a Marlin since the late 70's. read some negative remarks about this weapon. Purchased this and ran a couple of patches and light lube. Fired perfect, no problem cycling the action and solid groupings at 100 yards. Can not see wasting money on thousand dollar weapons for a weapon that will be drug though the swamps and or high desert and sagebrush. Outstanding knock down power as always from the 45-70. Have no problem knocking down the feral hogs in the swamps. This weapon is not for the faint or heart that can not stand heavy recoil.
