Outstanding weapon. Really likes the Hornady Ammo. Mine is equipped with Leupold 2x7, shoots
4 inch pattern at 100 yards. Very smooth action. Just an outstanding hunting rifle with knockdown power you wouldn't believe. Going to purchase one
to keep in the truck with iron sights only.

Have not fired a Marlin since the late 70's. read some negative remarks about this weapon. Purchased this and ran a couple of patches and light lube. Fired perfect, no problem cycling the action and solid groupings at 100 yards. Can not see wasting money on thousand dollar weapons for a weapon that will be drug though the swamps and or high desert and sagebrush. Outstanding knock down power as always from the 45-70. Have no problem knocking down the feral hogs in the swamps. This weapon is not for the faint or heart that can not stand heavy recoil.

Rated 5 out of 5 by marlinscout Great Scout Gun
Have had my 1895GBL for a couple of years now. The only ammo it doesn't care for is anything classified cowboy action. Eats everything else. I have never had any problems with mine and yes it was made by Remington. I have installed a forward scope mount and ghost rings by XS, Leupold med rings and a scout scope. Deadly accurate to 200 yards.
I would recommend cleaning up the action. Bit rough when new. Trigger is decent but has the Marlin flop to it. Have not replaced it and don't plan on it.
This is a monster and is not intended for people with weak shoulders. Will drop anything in its tracks with a well placed shot. Will drop anything in the lower 48 no matter where you hit it. Bad shot on a Texas hog, through the hind quarters, and the pig only had use of front legs. Quick fallow up and done pig.

Rated 5 out of 5 by PaoloB Awesome rifle - put another Black Hog Down!
I normally hog hunt with a Weatherby Mk5 7mm Mag or Beretta A391 Teknys Gold w/a slug barrel. I needed something shorter with open sights to swing around in the confines of the creek bottoms and brush. A friend recommended this rifle in lieu of beating up my Beretta shotgun.
I was shocked by the kick - what a recoil! It seemed a lot worse than a 3" slug out of the Beretta auto-loading shotgun. Maybe the gas system on the Beretta softened the recoil?
I added a Limb Saver Recoil pad to the stock - what a noticeable difference! This gun is now one of my favorites. It is always behind the seat of my truck. No more worries about beating up a $2,000 rifle scope!
I have had it for over 2 years and it is a great brush gun. I have shot over 20 hogs with it. 4 were glancing shots, that literally spun them around! I use this for anything out to 100 yards - open sights with a good rest.
The 45/70 rounds are easy to find almost anywhere (unlike my 7mm Wby Mag). I have had no problems with rounds feeding or extracting with any of the commercially available ammunition. I don't buy ca-ca ammo - only 1st quality brass factory loads from major manufacturers.
The knockdown power is tremendous! Mule and black tail deer simply fall over (after being knocked sideways a few feet).
At 75 yards, a 300 pound hog ran 10 steps before falling over. The shoulder shot was through & through, with a fist sized wound channel!
This cowboy lever action has become my favorite - a trouble & worry free "beater" that stops hogs in their tracks!
