Marine Rope Grippers
Handy, fast, and easy to use.
I have installed this this rope gripper on the rub rail of my boat in order to quickly tie and untie to the dock. The device was easily attached with two screws. The 3/8th inch rope i used was stiff but did fit into the slot. It is easily unfastened. I also use this to tie off my anchor line so it is easy to adjust the length of line let out.
It did seem to be expensive for a simple plastic cast product. At this price they should have included two screws!

Theory was good, but product wasn't
I bought the nylon cleats thinking they could do the job but was surprised that they didn't even hold up to the first time being used. Once I stepped off the boat after tying up, just the pressure along snapped every one of the clieats. I didn't want to try the zinc ones since I knew they wouldn't fair much better plus didn't want that stuff rusting my other equipment. Bought the chrome cleats and they've done well so far with a year of service under them.

This rope gripper is perfect for many uses. I installed one on my kayak for the anchor and it works perfect, no slipage at all. I can quickly drop anchor and attach the rope to this and I am ready to go. I also use one in the garage when I raise the kayak up out of the way I use one of these to tie it down, once again it holds perfectly. Also very sturdy. Highly recommended.

Metal does the job
You'll probably need the zinc or chrome for anything with anchors or heavy boats. Just one of these little guys holds a 20ib. anchor up dry at the front of my dad's boat. (of course there's a 90 degree pulley). No rope slippage or broken cleats while motoring or trailering. Keeps ropes straight and untangled simply because you never have to tie or twist.
