The J-style cradle's built-in "boarding ramp" makes loading and unloading the kayak easier. The J Downloader's Jawz universal fit mounting blocks and T-knob bolts fit most factory cross rails, regardless of shape, for simple, tool-free installation. Easy-to-use rotational hubs on the cradles with single touch slide locks adjust to accomodate different kayak sizes and styles. Cradle arms fold down flat for low clearance when not in use. E-coated, corrosion resistant steel cradles stand up to the elements well and feature full synthetic rubber padding to hold kayak in place safely and securely. Rated 3 out of 5 by It's Ok, BUT... It is a good product and it works well. The problem is with the "Universal" car attachment. Apparently it's universal if you have Malone rails, or Thule or Yakima. But if you have a Nissan Xterra, there's NOTHING universal about it. As a matter of fact, I had to go to the hardware store to get longer bolts to make it fit. It was rather annoying, but I'm over it. March 5, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent The best combination of performance and price. The Malone J-racks mount to Thule, Yakima, and factory bars, fold when not in use, and the ramp is large enough to use. Other details include the tie-down keepers, and quick install/remove. I use two sets to hall 2 12' kayaks. Easy to load and very secure. Great Racks! December 16, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent product Prior to purchasing this product I was using another similar "J" carrier manufactued by Swiss and also available at Bass Pro. However I needed a way of loading my kayaks by myself and Malone makes the Telos system which attaches to these carriers. This Malone product is a far more superior product and the fact that the carriers fold down flat when not in use is a bonus. The little bit of extra money is well worth it! October 15, 2011
Rated 3 out of 5 by Great Item, If you like pink hands. I purchased two sets of these along with 2 Ascend Kayaks - a D10 and a FS12. Worked great on the D10, but they are too narrow for the FS12 to settle into the cradles. When we returned home after using the setup for the first time my wife asked me where the pink handprint on the garage door came from. We were puzzled until I unloaded the kayaks and after handling the straps my hands were PINK! Mystery Solved. I returned these to Bass Pro and orderd two sets of Thule Hull-a-Port Pro. Too bad, because I really liked the design of the Malone's with their "boarding ramps". I'm sure that Malone will fix the pink hand issue shortly, so if you have a thinner Kayak that will fit in the cradle you will be pleased with these carriers. June 15, 2011
