Chum is semi-moist, you should be able to smash the chum in your hand and make a ball shape. Throw the chum into your casting zone. There are other ways to use, depends on type of fishing. Throwing is most common when fishing from the bank. Thank you!

The lighter part of the chum would go with the current. But the heavier parts would stay near you.
