MSR PocketRocket Stove
Great overall product for price
I bought this stove over 3 years ago and have used it time and time again on rock climbing trips and 14ers, from the Appalachian Mountains to the high desert in New Mexico. If I'm going out for <3 nights this is my stove system. Even now (fall/winter) its so light and compact with my MSR alpine pot I take it on day hikes for tea when I reach the peak or turnaround point. I have no trouble boiling and making food for my fiancé and I. Guarantees to boil even in wind, little more difficult but works well for its size. If it ever breaks (due to user error/dropping because its made bomber) I will no doubt be purchasing another one!

The Pocket Rocket is legendary. I am an outdoor professional and use my gear extensively, and this little stove has been a critical piece in my kit for 12 years running now. I bought one back in 2003 as an ultralight backpacking stove and it's been my primary ever since - super easy, super fast, and absolutely zero maintenance during that entire time. The only trips I haven't used it on have been arctic canoe expeditions, where white gas stoves have been necessary - always MSR!

Compact, Simple, and Effective
This is such a simple design there isn't much to describe. Screw on the fuel canister, twist the control valve knob and light the stove, that's it. Folded down and stowed in its hard case the stove is so small it can fit anywhere in your backpack or can easily be stored inside a cook set.
While I've read articles comparing stove alternatives that say the fuel is expensive, Relative to white gas or other liquid fuel stoves this may be the case. However, for the backpacker who might take a weekend trip once or twice a month it doesn't seem an issue. An 8 oz. canister of fuel has typically lasted about 3 to 4 trips in our experience, so far.
I've also used the stove in temperatures down to 30 degrees without any problem, though I did put the fuel canister inside my coat for about 15 minutes before I used it.
For the average backpacker this is the perfect stove, compact, simple to use and 100% effective in my experience.

Dependable, Convenient and Easy to use
I have had my Pocket Rocket for several years now. It has gone on more overnight to weeklong+ treks trips than I can count. It performs great even in sub freezing conditions. Even on some longer treks with bigger crew sizes, I have brought it as a back up stove and have used it every time. The things I love about this stove are many, here is a quick list: lightweight, easy to pack, easy to light & use, works in all conditions (although a wind screen is helpful in high wind situations) and consistent. The fuel canisters are also easy to use too! This is a stove I have recommended to many people over the years and they too now carry them. The value one gets for this stove is terrific: low price & top performance. Great job MSR!
