Luhr Jensen® Hot Shot® Side Planer™
Shorebound? Hot Shot lets you work your lure up to 100' from shore while standing on the river bank!
Used in trolling to present your lures out away from the boat's path, and to increase horizontal coverage. Free-sliding body lets you position your lure any distance from the planer. Buoyant body; adjustable trip mechanism releases friction on the strike. Includes rudder.

by AFTroller Best for rivers
Having used quite a few different planer boards, I believe the Hot Shot works best when fishing from a boat in rivers. Other brands are either much bigger or just don't take lures out to the side as well as the Hot Shot does. Plus, when you get a fish, the little Hot Shot isn't a big hassle to reel in as it pops and slides down the line.

Rated 5 out of 5 Hotshot Side Planers, trolling.
We have been using them for several years trolling lakes with great success. Once you get the hang of using them, they are simple and easy to use. We wouldn't go fishing without them.

Several years ago I was river bank fishing with a friend, where the river ran fast but was too wide for me to cast across to where the fish were in action.
Frustrated, I was rummaging through my tackle box trying to figure out how to weight the line to reach the fish and still have a fighting chance to land one when I picked up my Luhr Jensen planer and an idea clicked into shape.
A short time later, with the planer inline, I was working the planer out into the courrent when I realized that between letting out line and letting the lure drift downstream and gently bringing on drift resistence I could work the planer and lure all across the river in a block grid pattern reaching some 500 feet downstream!
Working the Luhr Jensen inline planer in the natural river current from the comfort of my riverside chair - after a single launch, I learned to cover every inch of downstream fish cover, up to 100 ft in width and up to 500 ft downstream!
I can drop the lure into the downstream eddies like it is a naturally occuring bait drifting downriver in the flow.
I can add some resistence and rod play and make the bait look like it is injured and struggling.
When fishing conditions are otherwise against fish strikes, I can generate territorial anger strikes where all others are failing to hook up!
Not count ing Mama's secret potion and the good luck fisherman's charm in my pocket, the Luhr Jensen planer works, allowing me to fish the entire river area and into eddies I could not otherwise get. And that is where the fish are!
This is no joke - I ALWAYS catch fish when river fishing with the Luhr Jensen inline planer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by jacjrc great trolling tool
we use two of these planers when trolling for all kinds of fish and they are terrific! The poles with the side planer out-fish the lines off to the sides of the boat 2 to 1. Went fishing this past week and the fish were real spooky due to lots of boat traffic. The only productive lines in the water were the ones with these planers. Simple to use. We've used ours for four years and they are still working fine.
