A little history
One of my best friends, and fishing buddy, was a salesman for Luhr Jensen. Because of this, I was able to test the Hot Lips before it went to market. I love this lure. I fish mostly smallmouth so I use the 1/4 ounce. I have also caught many Steelhead on the bigger lures. The watermellon and Texas red are my favorites for Steelhead .
I still have many of the early models that were given to me (free is a very good price). I have lost most of the lures in my favorite colors, so I get the others custom painted. My favorite colors are minnow colored lures and Texas red.
At the beginning the lures were all tank tested and ran good out of the box. Later on this step was skipped and many of the lures ran to the side and had to be tuned. After Luhr Jensen sold out to Normark they fired most of their management including the manager of the molding department. After this they started pumping out a bunch of inferior lures. I bought a couple of these, because they were in my favorite colors, and there is no way they can be tuned. On some of the lures the bill is at an angle to the body. Others have bumps on the body.
Hopefully Normark (Rapala) gets it right, because when this lure is properly built, it is a great lure.

This lure will catch fish and if you troll it you will get deep. The problem is it isn't tuned and if you hit it on a hard object it may come apart in two halves . It seems that since the orginal company sold that the quality has gone downhill. It doesn't cost much but you get what you paid for , a low cost lure that is just that.

Baby Hot Lips is HOT
Baby Hot Lips is HOT, this little lure has
real action, and gets all the way to the
bottom, and hugs it. I use this little
lady in cold weather for trolling. When
my buddies are on getting down 16-20
feet and getting few to no hits, this lure
is at the 40 to 50 ft level and taking
hit after hit. How do I know? At times
when I reel in a real slab of a Striper
theres mud on the lips of the lure. Don't
believe it? Spend $7.00 bucks and
try it. Its awsome. Every Crankbait
Angler should have a couple of colors
of these in there arsenel.
