Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 31 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by fish and depth I purchased this unit as a fish finder / depth finder. I would like to say I am happy with this unit and the dept alarms did exactly what I wanted this unit for. A little fine tuning adjustments and I was surprised at how well this unit was working for me.unit showed cover and distinction between fish and I definitely I was able to use this to my advantage. One disadvantage I would recommend they allow you to be able to turn the unit side to side and not only forward and back. Other than that I have not experienced any issues that were negative with this unit and first trip on the lake performed well and I would definitely recommend July 10, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by nto bad for the money i bought this finder to mount to my 14' fishing boat. it mounted up easy and was working the first time out. this finder has a fair amount of adjustment the only problem i have is finding fish. it really doesnt seem to locate fish unless i have it on the fish id selection. i have yet to see a fish arc with the fish id off. structure shows up as more of a blob so u kinda have to guess at what it really is. i also had problems with the power connector be careful the pins bend very easily. having said that if you want a decent entry level finder this isnt that bad February 6, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by good value Lorance X-4 is a very tough, useable depth finder, i use it to find big blue cat in the Ohio river, the unit can be set to show all fish or just the big ones . easy to use and set. as good as you need. very good price too. Bass Pro always has good , knowledgeable people to assist you on the phone. fast delivery too. cant go wrong with this unit. have fun. October 19, 2012
Rated 2 out of 5 by Not recommended for portable use Like many other reviewers, I was initially impressed with this FF, but I believe that it has one major design flaw which will only become apparent when/if the user intends to disconnect the head unit from the battery lead connector when it is not it use. I bought the Lowrance Fishfinder X-4 for use on my Ocean Prowler 13 kayak. Unfortunately, the connection between the cable and display is not robust enough. It is all too easy to misalign the male pins on the display unit and the female connectors on the cable resulting in damage to either or both when connecting up. The display unit male pins are too flimsy and the female receivers on the connector easily move because they are mounted in softish rubber rather than a rigid plastic this is exascerbated because of the tight, waterproof, push fit design. After only 4 months and half-a-dozen trips, one of the pins in the connector snapped off. To make matters worse, the limited warranty does not cover the user for this eventuality and Lowrance said that the unit was uneconomical to repair/replace. Apparently, there was evidence of corrosion in the connection port which they claimed had weakened the pins and caused one of them to snap off. This is despite the fact that I sprayed the pins with WD40 after every kayak fishing trip. Anyone who has one of these units will no doubt have noticed just how flimsy the pins are to begin with, so don't be surprised when they bend and become misaligned with the female battery lead connector, or as in my case, one of them snaps off when trying to straighten it. A:
The Grayline level will let you know, a small amount of grayline will indicate soft, probably sand or mud, a larger amount of grayline will indicate harder bottom, so yes it will.

The X-4 Fishfinder SKU 1753762 will include a transom mount transducer, which will mount to the transom of your boat. The location must be in the water at all times, at all operating speeds. The transducer must be placed in a location that has a smooth flow of water at all times. If the transducer is not placed in a smooth flow of water, interference caused by bubbles and turbulence will show on the sonar’s display in the form of random lines or dots whenever the boat is moving. For most situations, you will install your transducer so that it centerline is level with the bottom of the boat hull. This will usually give you the best combination of smooth water flow and protection from bangs and bumps.

To use the included skimmer transducer on the trolling motor you will need to purchase the Lowrance®/Eagle® Bracket for Mounting to Trolling Motor, item number 206850. I have included a link to the adapter below.

A:
It depends on whether you have the display backlit or not, and also if you have the fish, depth alarms activated.
With all three of these features disabled, I usually get over a full days battery life, and if I go on shorter fishing trips, I often get three trips on one charge.

This unit will come with the HST-WSU Transom Mount Transducer, which is item number 38-510-688-00. I am unable to locate information about the Lowrance x50d8. Therefore, if you have the same model transducer, it should work and if not you will need to use the new hook ups that come with the fish finder. Thanks
